The robot carries a camera and a microphone and runs the onboard YIKO voice assistant, so the collected sensor set includes live audio and video of the home. This model is also the subject of a documented security failure. Researcher Dennis Giese reported a Bluetooth PIN weakness to Ecovacs in December 2023 and disclosed it publicly in August 2024 after receiving no substantive response. In May 2024, owners in Minnesota, Los Angeles and El Paso reported X2 units being taken over remotely, driven around the home and made to shout racial slurs and obscenities through the robot's speaker; the same flaw exposed the camera and the microphone. ABC Australia demonstrated the takeover on 10 October 2024. Ecovacs stated that only the X2 Series was affected and shipped an over-the-air fix in November 2024. Owners should confirm their unit is running firmware from November 2024 or later.
