Consumer Reports' lab found it 'dragged some hair around but was able to pick it up in subsequent passes', showed 'a tendency to scatter debris in tests', and 'struggled to clear a .75 inch threshold but was able to eventually clear it'. It recharges and resumes, but there is no auto-empty dock, so a person empties the bin between runs.

The D-shape widens it at walls and corners, and LiDAR keeps lighting out of the equation.

Five years since June 2021 with genuinely independent evidence, unlike its Botvac siblings: TechRadar and CNET reviews, an r/NeatoRobotics thread titled Do Not Buy the Neato D8, and a robotreviews thread on a D8 firmware problem. Two modes are documented and recur, the side brush snagging on rugs and reduced high-pile performance, and neither is remediable, because the record states OEM brush rolls, filters and batteries are no longer manufactured. A job-limiting mode inside the service life with no OEM part to order is the 25 to 42 band, and the third-party supply is what keeps it at 30.

Every task is the owner's and several are fiddly. The 0.7 L bin is emptied after every use. Weekly the spiral brush roll snaps out for hair clearing and the magnetic side brush comes off so hair can be cut from its five prongs. Monthly the filter is tapped clean or replaced, which now means sourcing a third-party filter because OEM production ended. Wheel housings are cleaned every three to six months, the brush roll inspected annually, and the battery replaced from the secondary market when runtime falls below 50 minutes.

Yes, manually. Vorwerk kept the app and cloud running after Neato’s 2023 closure, then shut them down on October 6, 2025. The D8 now operates from the start button alone: one press launches a full house run. App-dependent features such as zone scheduling and no-go zones ended with the cloud.

OperationDoes the D8 require a subscription to access mapping features?

No subscription was required while cloud services operated. Full map editing and zone cleaning were available through the Neato Robotics app at no cost. Those app-based features ended in October 2025 when Vorwerk shut the cloud down.
