iRobot Roomba 694

iRobot · $129 street (MSRP $274) · Launched Mar 2021

iRobot's entry point: WiFi scheduling without mapping, bump-navigation simplicity, and a price that makes robot vacuums accessible without the self-empty premium. What you lose is spatial intelligence; what you gain is reliability through minimalism.

Owner reports · manufacturer documentation

Simple bump navigation is rock-solid; WiFi scheduling is reliable at price point.

Owner reports and product reviews document consistent operation across the budget segment. No major firmware issues or recalls since 2021. Bump navigation is inherently robust; failures are typically user-setup (WiFi connectivity) rather than mechanical.

Maintenance cadence
Weekly52×a year

Empty dust bin and remove large debris from wheels and brush.

Check main brush for hair tangles and matted debris; clean as needed.

Monthly12×a year

Inspect all wheels and corner sweeper for wrapped threads or stuck hair.

As neededVariesno fixed cadence

Wipe sensors and bumper contact for dust accumulation.

Replace main brush (~$35) and HEPA filter (~$20-25).

Reset WiFi connection if app control becomes unresponsive.

Safety flags
CautionCord and loose object entanglement riskNo bump sensor on undercarriage edges. Hanging cords and loose carpet fringes can tangle in wheels.
CautionUnsupervised operation on split-level stairsBump navigation cannot distinguish floor boundaries. Use baby gates or door closures to prevent falls down stairs.
Common questions

What buyers actually ask.

6 answered
Compatibility
Does the Roomba 694 work with Alexa or Google Home?
Yes, basic commands (start, stop, dock) work with voice assistants. Full control (scheduling, WiFi reconnection) still requires the iRobot app.
Compatibility
Can the 694 map multiple rooms and clean them selectively via the app?
No. The 694 has no mapping capability. It cleans all accessible floor in one run using bump-based navigation. Room selection is not available.
Operation
What is the difference between the 694 and other Roomba models like the 675 or 692?
The 694 adds WiFi connectivity and app scheduling compared to the 675 (WiFi-free bump navigation). The 692 is virtually identical to the 694 with cosmetic differences; specs and capabilities are the same.
Operation
How long does the 694 run on a single charge, and can it resume cleaning if the battery dies mid-run?
Typical runtime is 60-90 minutes depending on carpet and obstacle density. If battery dies mid-run, the robot returns to the dock but does not resume cleaning; you must start it again manually.
Compatibility
What happens if the WiFi goes down? Can the 694 still clean?
Yes. WiFi loss does not disable the robot. You lose app control and scheduling, but you can press the Clean button on the robot itself to start immediately.
Operation
Is the 694 suitable for pet hair, and how often do the brushes need cleaning?
Suitable for light pet hair (small dogs, cats). Heavy shedders may see brush jamming every 1-2 weeks. Main brush replacement every 6-12 months (~$35). Owners recommend weekly brush checks.
