TechGearLab's hard surface tests found the N79S "didn't actually collect very much of the flour at all, merely squeegeeing it around and accumulating it under the robot," sprayed rice and oats to the side, and its performance "plummeted" to failing to collect any of the mini-wheats. It clears loose surface debris on a schedule, and a person finishes the rest.

Just using auto tends to leave crumbs and mess around the edges," describing the movement as an 'ice hockey' method. Two things hold it here. The described failure evidence is historical Amazon reviews and forums with no links, which is retail review text and caps at 65. And on every surviving unit the battery is now past expected service life, which is job-stopping, while the record states spare parts are difficult to source, so it is not cleanly repairable with an orderable part. No credit is given for the machine having no map, no dock and no water circuit to fail.

OperationIs the Deebot N79S still available new?

No. Ecovacs discontinued the N79S in 2019 as the company shifted to mapped navigation. New units are extremely rare; used inventory occasionally appears at inflated prices.

CompatibilityCan the N79S connect to an app?

Yes. The S in N79S denotes the Wi-Fi version. It pairs with the Ecovacs app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for start and stop, cleaning mode, scheduling and status, and it works with the Alexa skill and with Google Assistant. An infrared remote is also in the box, with its own schedule and clock buttons. What it does not have is a map: there is no floor plan in the app and no zone or no-go control.
