OperationHow does it stay attached to the glass?
A vacuum motor holds it against the pane, with an auto-adjustable pneumatic pad balancing driving force against the treads. HOBOT publishes a 7 kg ascending power figure for moving up and down without skidding, and does not publish a Pascal rating for the 2S. Adhesion is not the whole story: HOBOT requires the 4.5 m safety rope to be tied to a fixed object indoors before every run, and the machine is mains powered on a permanently attached 5 m cord.
OperationCan I start it and walk away?
It cleans a pane on its own once placed and started, and it can be stopped or steered from the bundled remote control or the HOBOT app. It will not move to the next window: each pane is a separate placement, with the rope re-anchored indoors each time.
OperationDo I need to pre-clean windows?
Heavily soiled glass requires rinsing first. Owner reports indicate dusty windows reduce water flow and leave streaks. Light dirt is acceptable.
OwnershipHow often do pads need replacement?
Pads are replaced on condition rather than on a schedule: once the microfiber is matted, thinning or no longer wiping cleanly, it is due. Replacement pads cost approximately $20-30 per pair. HOBOT’s app pushes a cleaning reminder every three months, which is a useful prompt to check them.
OperationWhat happens if power is lost or adhesion fails mid-session?
On a power outage the onboard uninterruptible power system keeps the unit in position on the glass for 20 minutes with an audio alert. It holds; it does not park itself and it does not come down, so the owner retrieves it within that window. If adhesion is lost, the safety rope is what stops the fall, which is why HOBOT makes anchoring it to a fixed object indoors a step before every run.
OperationDoes it work on textured or frosted glass?
No. Textured surfaces break the suction seal. Manufacturer and owner reports confirm poor performance on frosted or heavily textured finishes.
