Use only the supplied charger, keep the unit on a hard non-combustible surface, and do not leave a charge running unattended overnight. Both CPSC recalls on Aiper's cordless line have been charging-path failures: the Elite Pro GS100 in August 2023 (recall 23-784, about 22,000 units, 17 reports of the battery overheating) and the Seagull Pro in March 2025 (recall 25-187, about 32,660 units, 19 reports of units melting, smoking or catching fire on charge). The Scuba S1 is the model CPSC published as the free remedy for the 2025 recall and is covered by neither recall itself.

OperationHow long does the Scuba S1 battery actually last on a full charge?
Aiper’s current product page states up to 180 minutes; the 2024 retail listing for the same machine states 150, which reads as a model-year revision rather than an error on either side. Independent bench testing measured 60 to 70 minutes of real runtime, well under both. Size a large pool against the measured figure.
OperationIs the S1 cordless, or does it use a tether?
Fully cordless, and there is no dock. The unit charges from a plug-in wall charger, 3 to 4 hours per Aiper and about four hours in independent testing. Charge it indoors on a dry surface away from the pool. Nothing is tethered during a run, so there is no cable management at all.
OperationWhat is the difference between the S1 and the S1 Pro?
The base S1 is manual start, with no app, no wifi and no Bluetooth. The S1 Pro adds app control and scheduling, pairing over Bluetooth and wifi from the surface. No Aiper pool robot uses a cellular link, which a submerged machine could not hold in any case.
OperationCan the S1 handle a saltwater chlorine system?
Aiper lists the Scuba S1 for concrete, fiberglass, vinyl and tile pools and publishes no saltwater restriction or corrosion warning for it. There is no wheel assembly to inspect either; the machine drives and climbs on caterpillar treads. Rinsing the unit with fresh water after a run and storing it dry is the same routine in salt or chlorine.

Automatic, once it is in the water. The S1 navigates with WavePath 2.0 and climbs on caterpillar treads, using inertial, acceleration and infrared sensing rather than suction-based wall detection. Aiper publishes no ascent rate, so none is stated here. No manual repositioning is needed.
