OperationShould I buy the S8 or wait for a docked variant?
The S8 ships with a charging dock and leaves dust and mop-pad handling to the owner. The S8 Pro Ultra adds a station that empties the bin and washes and dries the pad; it launched at $1,599.99 against the S8’s $749.99, a gap of about $850. The S8+ sits between them, the same robot bundled with the Auto-Empty Dock.
OperationDoes the S8 mop as well as the S7 Max Ultra?
Identical sonic head (up to 3,000 scrubs per minute) and pad materials; mopping quality is the same. The difference is manual refill/wash versus dock automation. S8 users must swap pads every 1–2 weeks; S7 Max Ultra users change pads every 2–4 weeks due to dock wash cycles.
OperationCan I add a dock to the S8 later?
The S8+ is the same robot bundled with Roborock’s Auto-Empty Dock, which Roborock also sells on its own. There is no third-party auto-empty dock ecosystem for Roborock robots, so the choice is between buying the bundle up front and adding Roborock’s dock later.
OperationWhat's the dustbin capacity without auto-empty?
The onboard bin holds under half a liter, so whole-home cycles fill it within a few days to a week, faster in heavy-shedding homes. There are no automatic empties; you remove and rinse the dustbin by hand. Roborock’s 60-day capacity figure describes the S8+ dock, not the robot.
OperationHow long does a mopping pad last on the S8?
Owner reports document 1–2 weeks before clogging or fraying; pads cost $8–12 per pair. Without dock washing, manual pad rinsing extends life minimally. At that rate mopping-heavy use runs roughly $16–24 a month, and lighter schedules cost less.
