OperationDoes the RK4000 require line-of-sight operation like remote-controlled mowers?
No. The boundary wire defines the mowing area and the mower works inside it with no operator present. Once a schedule is set, it runs on its own and returns to the base station when the battery runs low.
OwnershipHow often does the boundary wire need replacement or repair?
Robomow publishes no replacement interval for the perimeter wire. In practice the wire fails from physical damage rather than age: spade cuts during planting, rodent damage, and frost heave lifting pegs. Marking the wire route and checking it after any digging is more useful than a calendar.
OwnershipWhat is the difference between random coverage and systematic mapping mowers?
Random coverage ensures complete yard coverage but produces variable grass heights and inconsistent stripe patterns. Systematic mapping (GPS or vision-based) creates uniform coverage and stripe patterns but requires more complex setup. The RK4000 prioritizes setup simplicity over aesthetic uniformity.
OperationCan the RK4000 operate in wet conditions?
Yes, at the owner’s choice. The RK4000 has a rain sensor with adjustable sensitivity, and it can be set either to send the mower back to base when rain is detected or to keep mowing through it. Cutting saturated turf affects cut quality and can rut soft ground, so the setting is a turf decision rather than a limit of the machine.
OwnershipWhat blade maintenance is required?
The RK4000 uses offset blades on a pendulum-suspended deck. Robomow publishes no replacement interval or price for them, so condition is judged by inspection: replace when the edges are visibly rounded, chipped, or bent.
