iRobot Roomba Plus 505 Combo
Flagship vacuum-mop. Navigation is ClearView Pro LiDAR paired with PrecisionVision AI running on a front-facing camera that identifies cords, socks and pet waste on the floor, which the 405 below it does not carry at all. Mopping adds SmartScrub back-and-forth scrubbing and PerfectEdge, which extends the pad sideways for what iRobot rates as 18 percent more mopping coverage. The heated dock sits on top of those rather than being the only thing separating the two models.

Living with it.
LiDAR and navigation proven in j-series; heated dock mechanism introduces new failure surface with limited field data.
Core vacuum architecture carries forward from Roomba j7+ line (2+ year track record). Heated dock is new mechanical component with early reports of heating-element thermostat failures after 4-6 months of heavy use. Obstacle avoidance adds software complexity; occasional false-positive detections reported in complex layouts.
$999 to buy, then about $105 a year for the replaceable parts below. Over three years that is roughly $315 past the sticker price. Excludes electricity and any repairs.

Replacement cadence from the maintenance schedule; prices shown where the source documents them.
CautionHot-surface dock heating vent: Dock rear vent reaches 120-130°F during heating; risk of burn on contact. Keep dock clear of wall or furniture.
NoteEnhanced obstacle detection processing load: Obstacle avoidance may slow performance in heavily-furnished layouts; disable if consistent routing needed.

- No recolouring, cropping, rotating, restyling, or re-typesetting. Scale proportionally only, up to 2×: the seal to 536px wide, the standard to 224px.
