iRobot Roomba Max 705 Combo

Full combo with sealed dock and auto-empty. The mop-pad wash cycle adds convenience but the mop is a secondary function, not a core strength. Owners report solid vacuuming; mopping is supplemental.

OWNERSHIP

Living with it.

Solid vacuuming; dock integration remains the failure point.

iRobot published four firmware updates in the first 12 months addressing dock communication and cliff-sensor tuning. Owner reports show declining cliff-sensor false-positives after August 2025 firmware (v2.4.0). Dock-blockage complaints remain common, citing pet-hair accumulation in the auto-empty port.

Seasonal4×/yr
Replace brush roll (~$24 for OEM, every 4–6 months on pet homes).
Yearly1×/yr
Deep-clean dock exterior and check water-line integrity for leaks.
As neededno fixed schedule
Replace mop pads (~$8–12 per pair).
Safety notes

NoteDock pinch hazard: Mop-wash arm retracts quickly; fingers or pet tails can pinch.

NoteWater spillage from dock: Auto-wash cycles occasionally overflow on carpeted areas. Ensure hard-floor placement.

Common questions

What people actually ask.

4 answered
Compatibility
Does the Roomba Max 705 require a Wi-Fi extender if my 2.4 GHz signal is weak?
Yes. The robot connects to 2.4 GHz only (no 5 GHz support). Weak signal causes dropped dock navigation and mapping freezes. A Wi-Fi 6 dual-band mesh system solves this.
Operation
How often do I need to manually wash the mop pads?
The dock auto-washes pads between runs. Owner reports recommend hand-washing weekly if mopping more than twice per week. Hot-water cycles extend pad life to 3-4 months; neglected pads degrade to 6-8 weeks.
Operation
Can the Max 705 climb over door thresholds to access multi-room homes?
Max threshold crossing is 4 mm. Standard hardwood/tile transitions (~1/4 inch) are passable. Tall baseboards or raised doorsills (>5 mm) require ramp installation.
Operation
Does the Roomba Max 705 work with existing scheduling if I move it between two homes?
Dock and network location must remain constant. Moving the robot between homes disables stored maps and edge-cleaning routines. New setup takes 30-45 minutes per location.
