Roborock Saros Rover

The wheel-leg form factor is novel for consumer vacuums, and cleaning the treads on the way up is what separates it from the stair-lift systems shown by others, which move a robot between floors without touching the stairs. The critical unknown is whether a robot that climbs and cleans stairs under CES demo lights repeats it in the variability of owner homes with pets, loose runners, and narrow staircases.

OperationDoes the Saros Rover actually climb stairs, or is this marketing hype?
Manufacturer demonstrations at CES 2026 show the robot climbing stairs on articulated wheel-legs and vacuuming each tread as it goes. The tread cleaning is the part Roborock claims as a first; the stair systems shown by others carry a robot between floors without cleaning the stairs. The hardware is real. What remains unproven is whether the same reliability holds in owner homes with variable stair geometry, loose runners, or adjacent pets.
OperationWhen can I buy it?
Roborock has not announced a release date, model number, or MSRP as of June 2026. This is a concept demonstration. Historical precedent suggests Roborock ships early concepts within 12-18 months, but no commitment has been made.
OperationWill it work on my spiral staircase?
Roborock does not claim spiral staircases. Its CES materials name traditional stairs, curved stairs, carpeted stairs with bullnose fronts, slopes, and multi-level thresholds; spiral is absent from that list, and no wheel-leg width, articulation range, or tread-depth figures have been published. Treat spiral as unsupported unless Roborock states otherwise.
OperationWhat happens if it gets stuck on a staircase?
Recovery behavior is unpublished as of CES 2026. Manufacturer materials do not address failure recovery if a joint locks, loses traction, or encounters an obstacle while ascending or descending. This is a first-generation risk.
OperationWill it work with the existing Saros auto-empty dock?
No confirmation in CES materials. The Saros Rover’s footprint, dustbin design, and dock compatibility remain unspecified. Assuming any compatibility with existing Saros docks is premature.
ComparisonHow does this compare to Roborock's shipping Saros models?
The shipping Saros line is the Saros 10, Saros 10R, and Saros Z70, all conventional floor robots that work one level at a time from a dock. The Saros Rover adds wheel-leg stair climbing with tread cleaning, offset by pre-release status and unproven first-generation reliability. The shipping models are the known quantity; the Rover is a category signal.
