Trusted Reviews found floor debris "picked up almost perfectly, with only a trace amount of dirt left behind," with more left along the sides of the room. TechGearLab's tests were harder on it, recovering about 13% of pet hair from medium pile and 7% from low pile carpet and leaving roughly a 4 inch strip of debris along the edges, though it pauses, returns to recharge and resumes to finish the cycle.

Modern Castle notes it can determine which areas are already done, charge mid-cycle and "return to the last spot it cleaned to finish."

OperationDoes the Roborock S5 require a perimeter wire like older robot vacuums?

No. LiDAR navigation eliminates the need for boundary setup. The app defines no-go zones digitally. Setup takes 15-20 minutes for the initial map; user-drawn zones add another 10-15.

OperationCan the S5 clean multiple floors if I move it between rooms?

Yes, but mapping does not carry between floors. The S5 holds one active map and re-maps the level it is set down on, so moving it upstairs discards the map below it along with any zones or no-go lines drawn there. Storing separate maps per floor arrived on the S5 MAX and the S6; the original S5 was never given it.

OperationWhat happens if the mop pad dries out mid-run?

The robot continues vacuuming but mop performance drops without water. Manual refill is required; there’s no auto-refill dock or water-refresh mid-cycle. Owners schedule refills around room count and floor type.

OperationIs the S5 discontinued, and can I still get parts?

Yes, discontinued in 2019. Third-party brush and filter parts are abundant on Amazon and AliExpress due to the large user base. Official Roborock parts are becoming harder to source but still available through resellers.

Balanced mode measures about 69dB, ordinary vacuum-cleaner volume. Quiet mode is lower and draws less power at reduced suction, which lengthens the run rather than shortening it. Most residential noise rules cover night and early-morning hours, so a mid-day schedule while the home is empty avoids the restricted window; an early-morning start is the one that falls inside it.
