Husqvarna Automower 430X NERA

Mid-size platform that installs with a boundary wire in its standard configuration; satellite positioning and virtual boundaries require the separately sold EPOS plug-in kit and its reference station. The NERA generation brings that upgrade path to a mid-size body, though the added hardware cost and lawn-shape complexity place perimeter-free operation in a second pricing tier above the wired installation.

Common questions

What people actually ask.

5 answered
OperationWhat is the difference between the standard Automower 430X NERA and the wire-free version?
The standard model uses a physical boundary wire, with satellite reception assisting coverage and position awareness inside that wire-defined area. The wire-free version fits the EPOS Plug-in module to the mower and pairs it with an EPOS Reference Station, replacing the wire with app-drawn virtual boundaries at 2 to 3 cm; Husqvarna lists it as a separate product. EPOS is optional, but without it the boundary wire is not.
OperationDoes the Automower 430X NERA require a perimeter wire, or is it wire-free?
It requires a perimeter wire in its standard configuration. Husqvarna lists the boundary system as physical wire, and the box contains the charging station, power supply and 10 m of low-voltage cable, with boundary wire and stakes sold separately and required for a standard installation. NERA means EPOS-ready rather than wire-free: virtual boundaries need the Husqvarna EPOS Plug-in module fitted to the mower and paired with an EPOS Reference Station, and Husqvarna sells that combination as a separate wire-free variant of the product. There is no satellite-only virtual fencing mode. The receiver in the standard machine assists coverage and position awareness inside a wire-defined area; it does not define the boundary.
OperationCan the mower cover a yard with multiple separate grass zones or a property with an island?
Yes. In the standard installation the perimeter and every island are defined physically by the boundary loop, so adherence at the edge is a matter of centimeters regardless of satellite reception, and the app manages multiple zones. Where the EPOS Plug-in and a Reference Station are fitted, the same zones and exclusions are drawn in the app at 2 to 3 cm precision.
OwnershipWhat is the annual blade cost for the 430X NERA?
Husqvarna states Automower blades are single-use and must never be sharpened: sharpening weakens the blade’s safety coating and can lead to blade breakage. Recommended replacement is every 4 to 8 weeks through the mowing season, and the screws are replaced along with the blades. A genuine Husqvarna 6-pack sells for about $24, so blades are a small recurring consumable rather than a service item. Parts are widely available through Husqvarna dealers.
OperationHow does the 430X NERA handle seasonal storage and winter dormancy?
The 430X NERA is battery electric, with an 18 V 5.0 Ah lithium-ion pack and no fuel system. Husqvarna’s winter guidance is to charge the battery fully, clean the machine and store it indoors above freezing. Storing a lithium-ion pack discharged over winter is how packs are lost, so charge it before it goes away rather than running it down. Spring startup is checking the blades, cleaning the charging station contacts and confirming the boundary installation before the first run.
