OperationCan I use a standard extension cord with the Hobot 298?
The supplied power cord is 4 meters, so the question comes up quickly. Extending it introduces a joint that can be pulled apart mid-run, and losing power to a machine held on glass by suction is not a minor fault: the embedded UPS then keeps the suction fan running and the robot in position for 20 minutes with a continuous audible alert, which is retrieval time rather than operating time. If a socket is not within the cord’s reach, moving the work to a pane that is served is the safer answer than lengthening the run.
OperationDoes the square pad reach corners on all window types?
The microfiber cloth is 24 x 24 cm, about 9.4 x 9.4 inches, and square. Its corners cannot reach fully into a pane’s corners, so a manual corner pass after the main run is typical. Older reviews cite this as the primary cosmetic limitation.
OperationHow often should I inspect the vacuum motor?
Monthly inspection of intake ports and filter is recommended. Clean every 4-6 weeks in hard-water areas where mineral spray residue clogs intake. Replace filter annually or if suction drops visibly.
OperationIs the Hobot 298 suitable for second-story windows?
HOBOT publishes no height limit for the 298. What it does specify is the rigging: tie the supplied 4.5 meter safety rope to a sturdy fixture indoors that can withstand 150 Kgf, not to a gutter, a roof fitting or anything else outside the window. The rope’s 4.5 meter length is the practical bound on how far the robot can work from that anchor. If mains power is lost, the embedded Li-Po UPS keeps the suction fan running and the robot in position for 20 minutes with a continuous audible alert, which is the window you have to retrieve it in. Always test on a lower pane first.
