OperationCan Gladwell Gecko handle textured or frosted glass?
No. Suction adhesion depends on a smooth, flat, continuous surface, and frosted, deeply patterned or textured glass is outside what the Gecko is sold for. Gladwell’s stated surfaces are windows, shower doors and skylights, single or double pane. There is no published time-to-failure figure and no automatic shutdown to fall back on if grip is lost.
OperationHow often must microfiber pads be replaced?
Manufacturer documentation specifies replacement every 40-60 operational hours, approximately every 10-12 weeks for typical residential use. Pads cost USD 24-32 per set. Deferred replacement increases suction-motor strain and failure rates.
OperationWhat happens if the safety rope fails?
There is no fail-safe behind it. Without suction the robot cannot drive anywhere, so if grip is lost the rope is what stops the fall. Gladwell publishes no strength rating and no length for the rope and runs no inspection or certification program, so the judgment is the owner’s: inspect the full length before every session and replace it at the first sign of fraying, glazing or UV damage.
OperationCan multiple robots operate simultaneously on the same house?
Control is by infrared remote or by the phone app. An infrared remote works over roughly 10 meters and needs line of sight, so the practical difficulty with two machines is aiming a command at the one you mean rather than radio interference between them. Gladwell publishes no guidance on concurrent operation.
OperationWhat surfaces are unsuitable for suction mounting?
Manufacturer documentation lists: vinyl-frame windows (adhesion unreliable on curved frames), freshly sealed or oily glass (requires pre-cleaning), and windows with existing crack risk. Pre-flight glass-condition assessment is the operator’s responsibility.
OperationHow does the robot handle rainy conditions?
Gladwell publishes no ingress rating for the Gecko and no wet-weather behavior. Do not run it on exterior glass in rain: water on the pane changes the seal the suction depends on, and there is no rain mode, no suction-scaling firmware and no automatic halt to fall back on. Wait for the glass to dry.
