New Atlas confirms the between-run loop works (returns to base, clean water refilled, dirty water sucked out, detergent added, mop blow-dried) but says the J20 "remains quite 'hands on' for a labor-saving robot," that the dirty water canister went rotten when left a few weeks, and that in a cluttered room it "frequently gives up on trying to locate itself" and reports it has no idea where it is. Man of Many's tester found it "would get stuck once or twice on this carpet every clean," and "I tried this with carpet detection on and off, but neither stopped the J20 from getting stuck," so a human closes the loop on most runs.

One station handles everything. It empties the robot’s dust into a bag, washes the RollRenew belt mop, collects and drains the dirty water, refills clean water, dispenses detergent, and then dries the mop with warm air at 113F (45C). The robot returns to that single station during and after a run.

OperationHow does the J20 keep the mop off carpet?

It does not lift a pad clear of the carpet. The J20 runs one cycling belt mop with no retracting pad; its laser detects carpet and routes the robot around it. Rugs sitting inside a hard-floor room are therefore skipped rather than mopped, and app-set no-go zones can exclude them explicitly.

OperationWhat happens if the J20 encounters a hard-floor room connected to a carpeted room?

Sealed hard floor is what the mop is for and does not need excluding. The J20’s laser detects carpet and routes around it, so a mixed layout normally needs no setup at all. If a particular rug or room should stay dry, mark that area as a no-go zone in the app, not the hard floor.

CompatibilityDoes the J20 require 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi?
