OperationDoes the Ecovacs Goat GX-600 work without burying a perimeter wire?
Yes, and there is no base station either. A 150 degree wide-angle camera with SmartMove recognizes where the lawn ends, so the boundary is perceived rather than installed. No digging, no cable, no beacon placement. Boundary adjustments happen in the app without yard revisits.
OperationWhat happens if the camera cannot make out the lawn edge?
The GX-600 does not use satellite positioning, so there is no signal to drop. The boundary is recognized visually, which makes the relevant conditions the ones that affect what the camera can see: deep shade with little contrast between turf and border, an overgrown edge, or debris lying across the boundary. Ecovacs publishes no documented fallback behavior for an unreadable edge, so that remains unverified here.
OperationIs there a subscription to run the GX-600?
No. Ecovacs sells no positioning or correction subscription for this mower, and there is no cloud-correction tier. Boundary recognition happens on the machine, by camera, with no recurring service behind it.
OperationHow long does setup take?
There is no base station and no site calibration. Ecovacs positions the GX-600 as set-up-free: unbox, place the dock and let the mower map the lawn on its first runs, with zones and schedules set in the app. No electrical installation is involved.
OperationCan the GX-600 handle tall fescue or thick Bermuda grass?
Manufacturer spec lists blade configuration for standard turfgrass. Owner reports document slower cutting speed and occasional stalling on thick or overgrown grass. Not ideal for coarse-grass yards; annual pre-season trimming recommended.
OwnershipWhat is the typical blade replacement cost and interval?
