OperationHow does the A1 navigate without GPS, RTK or a camera?
By LiDAR alone. Dreame’s OmniSense 3D Ultra-Sensing scans 360 degrees horizontally and 59 degrees vertically, with a published detection range up to 70 m and 1 cm mapping precision, and it both builds the map and locates the mower inside it. There is no satellite receiver, no reference station and no camera, and Dreame states the sensing is not affected by weather, trees, roofs, sunlight or darkness.
OperationHow long does setup take, and does the map need redoing?
Dreame states the A1 familiarizes itself with a garden in about 15 minutes, on a single guided pass. The map is held by LiDAR rather than by satellite positioning, so it is not season or weather dependent and there is no spring and fall recalibration. A map is redrawn when the garden itself changes.
OperationWhat happens under dense tree canopy or beside buildings?
Nothing changes. The A1 carries no satellite receiver, so canopy, walls and roofs do not remove a positioning reference. Dreame states the system handles signal-blocked areas, which is the case this machine was designed for.
OperationDoes the mower handle wet grass or rain?
A built-in rain sensor pauses the session and the mower resumes when conditions clear. Dreame publishes no grass moisture figure for the A1, and the LiDAR sensing itself is not weather dependent.
OwnershipWhat maintenance is required per season?
Blade replacement as the edges wear, typically every couple of months in season. Blades are stamped consumables sold in multi-packs and are replaced rather than sharpened. Wipe the LiDAR window clear of dust film, and clean the dock contacts and pads seasonally.
OperationHow does performance differ from RTK competitors like Aiper Scythe or Husqvarna EPOS models?
The A1 navigates by LiDAR SLAM alone, with no GPS or RTK, and a changed boundary has to be shown to it again. RTK mowers position themselves with centimeter precision, but positioning does not set an Autonomy Ladder level: Level IV depends on independently shown clutter handling and self-recovery. The A1 costs $500-1000 less than most RTK models.
