OperationDoes the Saros Rover actually climb stairs, or is this marketing hype?
Manufacturer demonstrations at CES 2026 show the robot navigating stairs using articulated wheel-legs. The hardware is real. What remains unproven is whether the same reliability holds in owner homes with variable stair geometry, loose runners, or adjacent pets.
OperationWhen can I buy it?
Roborock has not announced a release date, model number, or MSRP as of June 2026. This is a concept demonstration. Historical precedent suggests Roborock ships early concepts within 12-18 months, but no commitment has been made.
OperationWill it work on my spiral staircase?
Unknown. Wheel-leg width, articulation range, and tread-depth tolerance have not been published. CES demonstrations used standard residential stairs. Compatibility with non-standard geometries is not documented.
OperationWhat happens if it gets stuck on a staircase?
Recovery behavior is unpublished as of CES 2026. Manufacturer materials do not address failure recovery if a joint locks, loses traction, or encounters an obstacle while ascending or descending. This is a first-generation risk.
OperationWill it work with the existing Saros auto-empty dock?
No confirmation in CES materials. The Saros Rover’s footprint, dustbin design, and dock compatibility remain unspecified. Assuming any compatibility with existing Saros docks is premature.
ComparisonHow does this compare to the regular Saros S8?
The Saros S8 is shipping with proven navigation and dock integration. The Saros Rover adds wheel-leg stair-climbing as a novel capability, offset by pre-release status and unproven first-generation reliability. The S8 is the mature option; the Rover is a category signal.
