A generational workhorse. Navigation is classical LiDAR SLAM, not the camera-based obstacle recognition of newer Qrevos. Mopping is a flat microfiber cloth on a 290 ml electronic water tank that clips under the robot, with no lift and no automation. At clearance price the capability per dollar is strong for buyers who mop hard floors and take the module off for carpet.

OperationIs the Roborock S5 Max still worth buying in 2026 when Qrevos are newer?
At clearance price it is a value play. Navigation is solid LiDAR with multi-floor map storage and years of field history behind it. What you give up is camera obstacle recognition, rotating dual pads, mop lift and a self-emptying, self-washing station; the S5 Max mop is a flat cloth on a tank you fit and remove yourself. The choice depends on whether that gap justifies the price difference.
CompatibilityDoes the S5 Max support the same app as newer Roborock models?
Yes. It runs on the current Roborock app alongside newer models, and the multi-floor mapping firmware was itself delivered through that app. Early units were also supported through Mi Home, but the S5 Max is not confined to a separate legacy app. Map zones, no-go zones, scheduling and live tracking are all present; what newer models add are features this hardware cannot use.
OperationCan I use the S5 Max dock with Qrevo mop accessories?
No. The S5 Max dock is a charging dock: contacts and a power supply, with no water tanks, no wash tray, no auto-empty and no mop connection of any kind. Qrevo station accessories have nothing to attach to. The robot’s own mop module is specific to the S5 and S5 Max generation.
OperationHow long do owners typically keep the S5 Max before replacing it?
Owner reports document units running reliably for 5-7 years with routine maintenance. No published replacement-rate data exists for the model, so that range is accumulated anecdote rather than a service-life figure.
OperationIs the single mop pad sufficient for hard-floor cleaning?
For hard floors, yes. The cloth is flat and full-width, it drags rather than spins, and water is metered from a 290 ml electronic tank through the app. It does not scrub, so dried-on spills still need a pass by hand. On carpet the cloth stays down, so the module comes off for carpeted rooms.
