No mopping hardware, so it is judged on vacuuming, and there is no self-service at all: the dock charges and the bin is emptied by hand. The D-shape reaches into corners and along walls that a round chassis leaves, which is real work finished. Since the 2025 cloud shutdown the record states every run has to be started at the robot and it runs one whole-house pass at a time, with no recall of saved rooms or restricted zones, so the owner is present at the start of every cleaning and decides afterward whether it was enough.

Modern Castle describes planned coverage where the sensors 'prevent the D7 from zigzagging around a space, aimlessly bumping into furniture', and Trusted Reviews confirms a floorplan retained between runs (no-go lines drawn on the saved map) with two caveats: 'if you move the base station, you need to re-do the floorplan', and no-go zones are only honored when the clean is started from the app. Consumer Reports found edges and corners its 'downfall'. Systematic and retained, with occasional misses and a manual reset after a change.

The iFixit Answers thread on a unit bought in 2019 reports it stalling in the startup routine with error 3000, resolved only by full disassembly, clearing dust packed into the gears and 'changing the 2 belts' at four years of age; the iFixit troubleshooting wiki carries the matching end-of-life entry, 'Robot Will Not Hold A Charge… the battery is out of life cycle'. A job-stopping mode at or near end of service life, repairable with orderable parts, which is where the stored value already sat.

The rubric's explicit low case in its most complete form. The record states plainly that no vendor support or parts channel remains. Scored as commitments, and this one was published and then broken: Vorwerk committed at closure in May 2023 to at least five years of cloud service, spare parts and repair with a dedicated team in Milan, then reversed it in 2025 citing cybersecurity requirements, three years short. There is no warranty, no service and no firmware, and the vendor's track record on its own written commitment is the relevant evidence about the future.

The bin is emptied by hand because no dock does it, the filter is rinsed weekly and the brush bristles inspected, the side brush is replaced every two to three months and the main filter every three to six, and the dock guide strip is cleaned when docking drifts. Added to that is starting every run in person, since the scheduling that used to do it was a cloud feature.

Roughly $140 a year, and the cadence is what drives it: a side brush near $20 every two to three months is close to five a year, plus a main filter near $15 every three to six months. Against a $799 original that is nearly 18 percent annually, and against what a working used unit fetches today it is more than the machine. No bags, pads or detergent. Botvac brushes and filters are simple parts with third-party supply, which is the only reason this is not lower.

CompatibilityDoes the D7 Connected still map without the Neato cloud app?

Yes. LaserSmart LiDAR mapping runs onboard, so the robot still navigates and cleans systematically. What ended when Vorwerk shut the servers down in 2025 is the app layer: scheduling, no-go lines and remote start. The robot now has to be started by hand, runs one whole-house pass at a time, and no longer recalls saved rooms or restricted zones.

OperationWhy was Neato Robotics shut down?

Vorwerk owned Neato outright and decided to close it in May 2023, stating publicly that the business had not met its self-defined economic goals for several years. There was no bankruptcy filing. Vorwerk committed at the time to keeping the cloud running for at least five years and staffed a team in Milan to do it, then reversed that in 2025 and shut the servers down, citing cybersecurity requirements.
