PCMag measured 875 sq ft in 75 minutes and, on a later run using Quick Boost mid-clean redocking, 1,191 sq ft over 2 hours 18 minutes, so it closes out a floor unattended; but there is no self-emptying dock and PCMag notes it pushes a notification when the bin fills so you can empty it 'before sending it back out to finish the job,' and Trusted Reviews found a faint outline of an X left at the room edge where the missing side brush could not reach.

TechGearLab describes lidar coverage as 'about average, covering most of the room without issue, but routinely getting hung up when trying to clean under the dining room table and chairs,' ultimately 'omitting the confined areas around the chairs.' Consumer Reports found it moved efficiently and methodically but that the lack of side brushes 'causes the robot to miss sand on the edges even when the robot navigates along the wall,' so the map is systematic and retained while two region types are missed by routine.

Consumer Reports ran it through its lab program and reports only cleaning limitations plus the warranty terms (1 year hardware, 6 months battery), and Trusted Reviews' hands-on names only consumable wear, the brush needing replacement 'every six months or so.' The stored 48, which is the anchor for a job-stopping mode near end of service life, is not supported by any text here; with no documented failure pattern this rests at the sound-machine anchor.

Pocket-lint reports the one owner-side stability problem in this set: 'we had to reboot and reconnect this robot three times. Not an issue we've had with such regularity while testing other smart robot cleaners.' Digital Trends found the opposite, that the app 'did its job with minimal interruption' and suits people who 'set it and forget it.' No source documents update history, release notes, a regression or a removed capability, so this sits just below the ordinary case rather than at the stored 33, which asserts an absent update channel that nothing here establishes.

Scored as commitments, and the commitment here was made and then broken: at closure in May 2023 Vorwerk publicly committed to at least five more years of cloud service, spare parts and repair, staffed by a fourteen-person team in Milan, then reversed it and shut the servers down in 2025, three years short. No firmware, no support, no warranty and no vendor remain. A broken published commitment is weaker evidence of future support than no commitment at all.

Few tasks, all of them the owner's, and one more than there used to be. The 0.7 L bin is emptied by hand after runs since no dock does it, the filter is rinsed weekly with a side brush check, the side brush is replaced every two to four months and the filter every three to four, and dock contacts are cleaned when docking drifts. On top of that the owner now starts every run in person, because the scheduling that used to do it lived on a server that no longer exists.

There are no bags, no pads and no detergent. The saving grace is that Botvac side brushes and filters are simple parts with a broad third-party supply that does not depend on a vendor who no longer exists.

CompatibilityDoes the Neato D4 work without the app after the company shut down?

The robot can navigate using its LiDAR sensor and clean in patterns without the app. However, it cannot be scheduled remotely, controlled from a smartphone, or use virtual boundaries, all features that required Neato’s cloud service, which was taken offline in 2025.

OperationWhat happens if I buy a used Neato D4 today?

The vacuum will clean if charged and started manually from the power button. App integration has been offline since the 2025 cloud shutdown and is not coming back. You lose scheduling, no-go zones, and remote commands, leaving only basic local operation.

ComparisonHow does the D4 compare to the D7?

Both use the same LiDAR navigation and D-shaped body. Neato never published a Pascal suction rating for any Botvac, so there is no documented suction figure to compare between them. The D4’s 0.7 L dustbin is the same class as the D7’s. The differences Neato documented are the side brush, the filter grade, and the accessory bundle. Both models are discontinued, and both lost cloud service in 2025.
