OWNERSHIP

Living with it.

Decade of market presence shows stable performance; blade wear and wire maintenance are primary owner touch points.

Owner reports document consistent navigation across eight firmware generations. Battery capacity fade is documented at 10–15% decline by year five; blade wear is predictable and interval-based. Dock reliability remains strong with occasional weather-related contact corrosion.

Common
Seasonal blade wear and dullingReduced cutting quality and uneven grass height
Owner fixReplace blade pair annually or every 250 operating hours (~$40-60 per replacement).
Occasional
Boundary-wire splice failureMower confined to intact portion of perimeter or immobilized
Owner fixInspect and repair wire joints with splice kit; test continuity before next operation cycle.
Occasional
GPS signal loss in tree coverNavigation slows in shaded yards; may require manual repositioning
Owner fixAdjust boundary to favor sun-exposed routes; manual app-based repositioning available.
Occasional
Dock battery contact oxidationIntermittent charging failures; mower returns without docking
Owner fixClean dock contacts monthly; replace contact pads if oxidation persists (~$50–75 service).
Occasional
Battery capacity fade in cold climateRuntime drops 15–25% in winter; coverage may require multiple cycles
Owner fixPlan shorter sessions in cold months; store battery indoors above 32°F during off-season.
Upkeep routine
Each useEvery cycle
Clear grass clippings and debris from wheels and undercarriage if operating in wet conditions.
Weekly52×/yr
Inspect perimeter-wire visible path for damage or displacement; test continuity with included checker.
Monthly12×/yr
Clean dock charging contacts and mower sensor pads with dry cloth; check for moisture accumulation.
Seasonal4×/yr
Repair or replace any damaged boundary-wire segments; reconnect loose splice joints. · If not operating in winter, remove and store battery indoors above 32°F.
Yearly1×/yr
Inspect dock weatherstripping and charging cable for cracks.
As neededno fixed schedule
Replace all three blades and fit new screws. Husqvarna specifies new screws with every blade change, and the interval shortens on larger or faster-growing lawns.
Safety notes

CautionBlade contact during manual repositioning: Spinning blades present pinch risk if hands contact mower undercarriage. Always stop mower before handling or repositioning.

NotePerimeter-wire electrical contact: Boundary wire carries low voltage (9V) to signal perimeter; safe to touch, but supervise children during installation.

Common questions

What people actually ask.

5 answered
OperationHow deep do I need to bury the boundary wire for the Husqvarna Automower 315X?
Husqvarna does not require burial; surface-lay wire is standard. Most owners press edges into soil 0.5–1 inch for stability. Burial is optional and typical only in high-traffic areas.
OperationWhat is the maximum slope the 315X can handle reliably?
Husqvarna publishes two figures. Inside the mowing area the maximum is 40 percent, which is about 22 degrees. Where the boundary wire itself runs, the maximum is 15 percent, about 9 degrees, because the mower is tracking and turning along the wire and has least traction there. That second figure is the one that governs wire routing and it is the one most often missed. Wet grass reduces traction below both.
OperationDoes the 315X require frequent blade changes?
Yes. Husqvarna’s guidance is to replace the three pivoting blades every four to eight weeks, depending on lawn size, grass type and mowing frequency, and to fit new screws every time the blades are changed. Genuine blades are sold in multipacks, so a set of three is inexpensive; budget for the screws alongside them. Worn blades tear rather than cut, and load the cutting motor.
OperationCan the 315X transition between two separate grass areas if I cut a section for pathways?
No. The 315X requires a continuous wire perimeter loop. Separate sections need independent wire loops and separate dock stations, or manual repositioning between areas.
OperationWhat happens to the 315X in winter if I store the battery?
Remove and store the battery indoors in a cool, dry place. Husqvarna recommends storage above 32°F and below 77°F. Reinstall in spring; battery recovers full capacity after one charge cycle.
