Dual-arm dexterity is real. Whether the GR-2 ever leaves the factory floor is the question.

Common questions

What people actually ask.

6 answered
OperationDoes the GR-2 operate without a human supervisor or teleoperator?
Not in published deployments. The platform executes pre-programmed task sequences or accepts remote-pilot control in structured factory settings. Autonomous perception and decision-making capabilities are not documented.
OperationWhat are the arm payload and grip strength specifications?
Fourier publishes a single-arm load capacity of 3 kg (6.6 lb). A combined dual-arm figure does not appear in the published specifications. Grip is regulated by the six tactile arrays in each hand, which read force and material and adjust in real time rather than applying a fixed clamping force.
OperationCan the GR-2 climb stairs or operate on uneven surfaces?
Not demonstrated. The GR-2 walks, and Fourier showed it walking at the September 2024 launch with a published maximum of 5 km/h, but the demonstrations are on flat flooring. Stair climbing and uneven-terrain locomotion do not appear in Fourier’s published material.
OperationWhat is the sensor suite for object detection and environmental awareness?
The published detail is on touch: each hand carries six array-type tactile sensors that read force, identify an object’s material and shape, and adjust grip in real time. Perception and control run onboard, on a 14-core Intel Core i7 base platform under Ubuntu 20.04, with a higher-performance compute module offered as an option. Fourier’s launch material details the tactile array rather than the vision and ranging hardware.
OperationWhen will consumer pricing and availability be announced?
No official timeline has been disclosed. The platform remains positioned as an industrial research and pilot offering.
OperationHow long does a fully charged unit operate before requiring recharge?
Fourier’s support documentation gives a 950 Wh pack, about 120 minutes of runtime and about 120 minutes to recharge. The pack is detachable and hot-swappable, so a unit with spares on hand is not held to the two hour limit.
