Roborock S5 Max

You are buying proven reliability at the cost of feature newness. The S5 Max’s simplicity is its strength; the Qrevo’s complexity adds capability you may not need.

Wyze Robot Vacuum

LiDAR mapping comes at the cost of suction power. At 2,100 Pa, the vacuum underperforms compared to similarly-priced competitors with 3,000-4,000 Pa. Wyze prioritized navigation sensors over motor capability, resulting in slower pickup and reduced effectiveness on obstacle edges and dark surfaces.

The charging station recharges but does not empty. Manual bin emptying every 2-3 cycles is required; unlike competitors with an auto-empty base, the Wyze demands active owner attention to maintain consistent performance.

Who each one is wrong for

Dynamic homes with frequent furniture rearrangement
Classical LiDAR mapping is less forgiving of layout changes than AI-enhanced systems on newer Qrevos. Map updates require manual intervention.
Owners wanting the latest autonomy features
No camera or AI obstacle recognition; obstacles are found by the bumper rather than avoided in advance. Mopping has no lift and no automation, so the pad is down whenever the module is fitted, including on carpet, and the only zone control is cutting the water flow while the damp pad still passes over. Carpet Boost does raise suction on carpet automatically.
High-pile or shag carpet homes
The mop is a single flat cloth that cannot lift, so on carpeted floors the water tank module has to come off before the run rather than being managed by the robot. On the vacuum side, Carpet Boost raises suction on pile, but suction and brush design are a generation behind later models.
Wyze Robot Vacuum
High-pile carpet or multi-level shag
Suction peaks at 2,100 Pa, below category baseline. Owner reports document inadequate pickup on high-pile surfaces and visible dirt residue after single passes.
Homes with frequent layout changes or tall thresholds
Saved maps need re-running when furniture is rearranged. Robot struggles with abrupt transitions (ramps, ledges over 1 inch).
Pet-heavy households or allergy-sensitive homes
Sub-2,100 Pa suction insufficient for embedded pet hair and dander accumulation. Manual bin emptying creates airborne dust during disposal; not suitable for allergy-prone residents.

  • Biweekly: Wipe LiDAR lens to prevent mapping degradation.
  • Monthly: Clean main brush and side brush; replace if matted (~$8-15 per brush).
  • Monthly: Wipe the dock charging contacts with a dry cloth.
  • Annually: Replace mop cloth (~$15-20). Replace HEPA filter if not yet done (~$15-20).

  • After every 2-3 cycles: Empty dust bin into trash; tap filter to dislodge trapped particles.
  • Weekly: Wipe LiDAR lens with dry cloth to prevent humidity fogging (~1 min); inspect wheels for tangled hair or debris.
