The trade-off
What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
3D LiDAR SLAM fused with vision removes the wire-burying step entirely, but HOOKII has not published the one number (max slope) that tells a hilly-yard owner whether this mower will hold traction.
Lift/tilt monitoring and an emergency stop are documented; the timing behind them is not, so a buyer gets the feature name without the number that would let it be checked.
The RTK base station, antenna, ground stake and mounting hardware ship in the box at the purchase price, so there is no separate infrastructure spend. What the setup costs instead is siting: a position with clear sky view and a power run within the supplied 10 m cord.
Mulching design eliminates visible clipping patterns and bagging option. Owners cannot switch between mulching and discharge on same mower.
Who each one is wrong for
Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

- A tracked RTK platform at this price is more machine than a small flat lawn needs. The base station ships in the box rather than as an add-on, so the objection is not infrastructure cost: it is that centimeter positioning and tracked traction go unused on minimal acreage where a wire-guided or vision-only mower covers the same ground.
- Properties with dense tree canopy or metal structures
- RTK positioning requires clear sky view for satellite signals. Extensive shade or nearby metal (gutters, fencing, vehicles) introduces multipath interference and occasional fix losses.
- Buyers requiring stripe-aesthetic lawn patterns
- Mulching blades leave no visible clipping windrows; the clippings go into the soil rather than lying on the surface, and with them goes the striped finish a side-discharge or bagging deck produces. Owners who want a patterned cut should look at non-mulching platforms.
What stays your job
The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.
- After every use: Rinse the blade assembly and surrounding areas with clean water once the mower is powered off; HOOKII documents this after each mowing task to keep the disc from jamming.
- Monthly: Replace all five blades and their screws as a set; HOOKII recommends fresh blades every 3 to 6 weeks, sooner with visible wear, and sells a 10-blade set (two changes) for $29.
- Monthly: Inspect the charging station and rear mower contacts and clean them to bright metal; HOOKII suggests checking every two weeks during peak season.
- Every 3-6 months: Fully recharge the battery at least once every six months whenever the mower sits in extended storage.
- Seasonally: Winterize per HOOKII’s guide: fully charge, power off, clean, disconnect the charging station, and store flat between -20 and 45 C.
- As needed: Deep-clean the blade guard underside with a low-pressure hose at the 30mm blade height per the blade module guide; never a pressure washer or solvents.
- As needed: Wipe the exterior with a soft brush or damp cloth; alcohol, gasoline, and acetone damage the housing.
- After every use (wet conditions): Hose undercarriage to clear mud and grass from track assembly; prevents clogging and ensures traction.
- Weekly: Track inspection for debris or clumped soil; clean drive sprockets and idler wheels.
- As blades dull or take damage: Replace the dual rotary blades as a set rather than singly; the mower runs SK5 steel blades at 6,000 rpm across a 16 in cutting width, and the blades are supplied and sold as a set.

- Seasonally: Inspect track tensioner and adjust if wear is visible. Indoor storage in freezing climates recommended. Store the pack charged rather than run down, and check battery health before spring restart.
