01 Classification

What each one does on its own.

The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

04 Ownership

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Bosch Indego M+ 700

Perimeter wire has to be laid once and spliced when it is cut, but it carries no reference station, no satellite sight line and no recurring cost. The install effort is front-loaded rather than ongoing.

Systematic LogiCut coverage is preceded by three full learning cuts, so the first week of ownership does not show the lane pattern the machine eventually settles into.

Ecovacs Goat GX-600

Wire elimination buys nothing to install. No perimeter wire, no beacon, no base station and no correction subscription. What you take on instead is a boundary the mower has to see, which depends on the lawn edge staying legible to a camera.

Excellent on known terrain; the mower builds its map over the first runs and then operates with minimal variability. The floor is high, but the 600 m2 ceiling is the same as compact wire-guided alternatives.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Bosch Indego M+ 700
Lawns requiring coverage beyond 700 m²
The Indego M+ 700 is rated to 700 m²; larger lawns require a higher-capacity model or additional unit. Coverage of areas beyond the rated boundary will be incomplete.
Renters or temporary property occupants
Perimeter wire installation requires laying and optionally burying wire around the lawn boundary. Relocation cost and effort are prohibitive for tenancy periods under 2–3 years.
Budget-constrained buyers prioritizing entry cost
Unit price is above entry-level wire-guided alternatives. Husqvarna and Worx models at lower price points offer comparable wire-guided Level III operation for smaller lawns.
Owners requiring local-only operation without internet dependency
App scheduling and firmware delivery require a smartphone connection; no documented local-only fallback mode for schedule management without the companion app.
Ecovacs Goat GX-600
Yards over 600 m2, or borders the camera cannot read
Rated for 600 m2, about 6,460 sq ft. Dense canopy that flattens the contrast between turf and border, or an edge grown out into beds and gravel, can affect boundary recognition.
Steep slopes above 40% gradient
Ecovacs rates the GX-600 at 22 degrees, which is a 40 percent gradient. Above the rating the machine is outside the manufacturer's figure. Traction on any robotic mower drops on wet grass, so grip on a steep bank is lowest after rain.
Owners seeking centimeter-precision stripe patterns
Camera-based boundary detection does not provide RTK-level centimeter accuracy between passes. Stripe-focused owners should choose dedicated RTK platforms.
Owners seeking lowest-cost entry point
Wire-guided alternatives deliver similar coverage and autonomy at lower lifetime cost for small yards.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

Bosch Indego M+ 700
  • Weekly: Inspect the lawn for debris, branches or toys that could jam the blade disc or stop a session.
  • Monthly: Clean the underside of the deck and the blade disc, and check the drive wheels for compacted grass.
  • Every 4-8 weeks in the mowing season: Replace the three pivoting blades as a set. They are consumables sold in multi-packs at roughly $12 to $20 for a set of three, and they are replaced rather than sharpened.
  • Seasonally (spring/fall): Inspect the boundary wire and pegs for lifted or damaged sections, and clean the dock contact plates.
  • Before winter: Charge the battery fully, then store the mower indoors in a dry place above freezing.
  • Annually: Inspect wheels and motor housings for debris accumulation, particularly after wet-ground sessions.
Ecovacs Goat GX-600
  • Seasonally: First run of the season is docking the mower and letting it re-map; there is no base station to deploy and no site calibration.
  • Blade changes: Inspect the blades through the season and replace the set once edges are dull or chipped. A spare kit ships with the mower and replacements are sold in multi-packs. Replace rather than sharpen: grinding thins the steel and unbalances the disc on a machine that runs unattended.
  • After every 5-10 uses: Clear deck and blade area of grass clippings and debris.
  • Monthly (during season): Wipe the camera window. A fouled lens is what degrades boundary recognition.
  • Annually: Dock connector cleaning; check wheels and fasteners before the first mow.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
