What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Aiper Surfer S1

Solar power offers maintenance-free charging and zero-electricity operation, but runtime depends entirely on weather and season, creating predictable gaps on cloudy days.

Unmapped navigation needs no calibration or boundary setup, yet it also means no way to direct the unit at a particular part of the surface.

Waterline-only design eliminates floor-cleaning overhead and cost, but leaves sinking debris untouched and suits only specific pool conditions.

Maytronics Dolphin E10

Coverage is the machine’s to decide, not the owner’s. CleverClean scans the floor on a fixed 1.5 hour cycle with no stored map, so there is no route to inspect or adjust and no way to send it back to a missed area short of running the cycle again.

Surfer S1 does not address sinking debris, algae, or bottom accumulation. Owners needing comprehensive coverage should pair with a floor cleaner or choose dual-function alternatives.
Pools with little direct sun on the water
The Sunseeker behavior recharges the pack by moving the unit into sunlight. A pool under permanent cover or dense shade removes that path, and the unit's ability to run itself indefinitely with it.
Owners expecting programmed cycles
Aiper's published app description covers manual control, battery status and pool temperature. No scheduling function is published, so sessions are started rather than programmed.
Water above the rated salinity
Aiper states the Surfer S1 works in standard, saltwater and natural pools up to 6,500 ppm NaCl. Water held above that figure is outside the published rating.
Owners wanting one machine for the whole pool
The Surfer S1 works the water surface. Floors, walls, steps and the waterline are outside what it does, and Aiper sells separate machines for those.

In-ground pools with heavy waterline staining or algae buildup
No wall-climbing motor means zero waterline coverage. Calcium and algae stains require manual brushing or chemical treatment; E10 cannot address them autonomously.
Pools longer than 30 ft
Maytronics rates the E10 for pools up to 8 m (30 ft) in length, and the 12 m (40 ft) cable sets the practical reach. Length and cable run are the limits, not water volume.
Owners expecting scheduling convenience or hands-off operation
Maytronics lists no timer, remote control or app for the E10, so the unit cannot start itself. Every cycle means uncoiling the cable, placing the unit in the pool, switching the power supply on and lifting it back out afterward.

What stays your job

  • As the basket fills: Lift the unit out, empty the 5 L filter basket and rinse the 200 micron element. The unit is designed to live in the pool between emptyings rather than be removed after each session.
  • Monthly: Wipe the solar panel with a soft cloth to restore charging output.
  • Every 3-6 months: Inspect the propeller and housing for cracks or deformation.
  • Seasonally: Store the unit dry and indoors over a closed season, with charge in the pack rather than run flat.
  • Annually: Inspect the intake gasket and seals, and replace if visible wear has developed.
Maytronics Dolphin E10
  • After every cycle: Lift out the top-load filter cartridge and rinse it with a hose. A loaded filter costs suction directly. Check the cable for tangles and debris.
  • Before every cycle: Uncoil the cable and let it lie straight. Maytronics specifies no anti-tangling swivel on the E10, so twists are worked out by hand.
  • Annually: Inspect the motor housing for mineral buildup or corrosion, and check the filter cartridge for tears. Maytronics publishes no scheduled replacement interval for it.
  • Seasonally: Drain residual water from the unit, then store it and the cable indoors to prevent UV and freeze damage.
