Aiper Scuba S1

Cordless simplicity trades against endurance: there is no cable to drag or untangle, but the machine runs on what the battery holds, and independent bench testing measured 60 to 70 minutes against Aiper’s up-to-180 figure. Corded cleaners run as long as they are plugged in.

Maytronics Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus

The fine-porosity cartridges that capture silt and sand are the same porosity that loads quickly. In an algae bloom they can fill inside a single cycle, so the after-every-use rinse is what keeps pickup from falling off.

Cord-based operation eliminates wireless convenience but removes dependency on app uptime and cloud connectivity.

Who each one is wrong for

Pools over 1,600 sq ft or longer than 50 ft
Aiper rates the Scuba S1 to 1,600 sq ft and 50 ft of pool length. Past that, single-charge coverage is not rated, and independent bench testing measured real runtime at 60 to 70 minutes against Aiper's up-to figure, so a large pool means multiple cycles with a recharge between them.
Heavily silted or algae-laden water
Wheel brushes and suction design suited to moderate loads. High algae growth or sand settlement requires pre-filtration or chemical treatment.
Owners who want scheduling or app control
The Scuba S1 has no wifi, no Bluetooth and no app. It is a manual start: put it in the pool, press the button, retrieve it when it finishes. Scheduling and remote control belong to the S1 Pro, not to this model.

Above-ground or inflatable pools
Weight and wall-climbing design do not fit above-ground sidewalls. Suction-based robots are standard for inflatable pools.
Pools with irregular stone or tile edges
Navigation scans the pool rather than building a map, so covering a heavily irregular shape depends on cycle length rather than a planned route, and crevices along a rough stone edge can be left.
Owners wanting a cleaner they never handle
Maytronics instructs owners to rinse the filter after every use, and the unit is lifted in and out of the pool by hand each cycle. There is no self-emptying base.

What stays your job

  • After every use: Empty the debris basket; rinse the filter cartridge.
  • After every use: Rinse the unit with fresh water and let it dry, then charge it indoors on a dry surface away from the pool, using only the supplied charger. A full charge takes 3 to 4 hours.
  • While charging: Use only the supplied charger, keep the unit on a hard non-combustible surface, and do not leave a charge running unattended overnight. Both CPSC recalls on Aiper’s cordless line have been charging-path failures: the Elite Pro GS100 in August 2023 (recall 23-784, about 22,000 units, 17 reports of the battery overheating) and the Seagull Pro in March 2025 (recall 25-187, about 32,660 units, 19 reports of units melting, smoking or catching fire on charge). The Scuba S1 is the model CPSC published as the free remedy for the 2025 recall and is covered by neither recall itself.
  • Weekly: Deep rinse of the filter cartridge under running water.
  • Monthly: Check the treads and brush for embedded grit or tangled debris that could affect climbing.
  • Seasonally: Pool winterization; drain the robot and store it indoors in freezing climates.
Maytronics Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus
  • After every cycle: Lift the unit out, open the top-load basket and rinse the filter cartridges with a hose. Maytronics instructs owners to do this after each use, and the quick water release is built for it (no cost).
  • Weekly: Check the cable for cuts, kinks or abrasion (no cost).
  • Periodically: Inspect the two rotating scrubbing brushes and replace them when the bristles wear down.
  • Every 4-6 months: Filter cartridge replacement (~$28-35 per cartridge).
  • Seasonally: Store the unit and its transformer indoors and out of freezing conditions when the pool is closed.
