Robot Vacuum Won’t Turn On? Fixes
What is going wrong
- Transport modeA main switch left off, or a lock set for shipping, presents as a machine with no power at all.
- The joinA film of dust on the pads is enough to stop the charge, and it is invisible.
- A flat pack looks deadBelow a threshold a robot will not respond to its own button at all, and needs to sit on the dock before it can be judged.
Why this happens
The power button and the dock only work when the internal controller can draw a small amount of current from the battery. If the battery has been flat for a while, or the metal charging contacts are dirty or wet, that current never reaches the board and the robot appears dead even though nothing has failed. Many units also ship with a physical power switch off, a transport or storage mode enabled, or a child lock active, all of which suppress the power button on purpose.
Fix it in order
Work through these from the top. Each step rules out a common cause before you move to the next.

Dock it and wait.
Seat the robot on the charging base and confirm the base itself has power at the wall. A deeply discharged battery can take several minutes before any light appears, so give it time before assuming it is broken.

Clean the charging contacts.
Wipe the two metal strips on the robot and the matching pads on the dock with a dry cloth. Corrosion, dust, or moisture here blocks charging and makes a healthy robot look dead.

Check the main power switch.
Many models have a physical switch, often under the unit or behind the dustbin, that must be on for the button to respond. Confirm it is in the on position.

Exit transport or child lock mode.
Units shipped or stored may be in a transport or storage state, and some have a child lock that disables the button. Check the manual for the exact button combination that releases these modes.

Perform a hard reset.
A frozen controller will ignore the power button. The reset method varies by model, so check the manual for the exact button combination, then try powering on again.

Try a different outlet and cable.
Rule out a dead wall socket or a damaged charging cable by testing the dock on a known-good outlet.
If it still shows no response
- Very cold or very hot storage. Batteries and their protection circuits refuse to operate at temperature extremes. Bring the robot to normal room temperature and try again.
- Moisture inside the unit. If the robot was run over a wet spill or stored damp, internal contacts can trip a safety cutout. Let it dry fully before charging.
- A seated but faulty dock. A dock that lights up but does not deliver current will leave the battery flat. Confirm the robot actually charges by watching for a change in its indicator over an hour.
When it is the robot, not the setup
Sometimes the hardware or firmware is genuinely at fault. Tell-tale signs:
- The robot never responds even after a confirmed full charge on a known-good outlet.
- A charging light appears but the battery never holds any charge across several hours.
- The unit powered off mid-clean and has been unresponsive since, pointing to a controller or battery failure.
Firmware updates and manufacturer-side changes that affect power behavior get logged on the robot’s record and in the Tracker.
A vacuum that will not wake is still a fixed cost you already paid, and most no-power cases trace back to a flat battery or a dirty contact rather than a dead machine. Rule those out calmly before treating it as scrap.
