Kress KR172 Mission RTKn

Network positioning replaces wire: no perimeter to lay and no antenna, beacon or base station to mount, but the property has to be inside Kress’s RTKn coverage. Inertial navigation and odometry bridge shaded stretches, not a missing footprint.

Mammotion Yuka 2000

Wire-free setup comes with a second piece of hardware to site and keep connected: the RTK station and its Wi-Fi or 4G correction link are what replace the buried perimeter.

The sweeping deck makes one machine do two jobs, and cuts the rated gradient from 28 degrees to about 10 while it is fitted.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Properties outside Kress RTKn network coverage
Positioning comes from Kress's own correction network, so the property has to sit inside its footprint. Shade is not the disqualifier: under weak satellite signal the mower switches to inertial navigation and odometry to hold its routing until a clear connection returns. A property with no network coverage at all is the case that rules the machine out.
Lawns that regularly hold small objects
The US KR172 is listed without OAS, the obstacle avoidance system Kress names in the KR173 and above. Toys, hoses and pet waste have to be picked up before a run. Some EU KR172E.A listings bundle OAS, so confirm the variant before assuming it is fitted.
Slopes above 40% gradient or soft, boggy ground
Kress rates the KR172 to a 40 percent maximum slope. Past that, and on poorly drained soil, traction rather than positioning accuracy is the limit, and centimeter-level accuracy does not compensate for a wheel that is not gripping.
Mammotion Yuka 2000
Lawns above the rated area
Mammotion rates the YUKA 2000 at 2,000 m2, about 0.49 acre, reaching roughly 0.7 acre under good reception, at a mowing rate of 350 m2 per hour.
Sweeping on sloped ground
The sweeping deck drops the rated gradient to 18 percent, about 10 degrees, from 28 degrees without it. A bank that the mower handles bare is outside the rating once the sweeper is on.
Ground steeper than the machine rating
Mammotion rates the YUKA 2000 at 28 degrees, published also as a 45 percent gradient, with no sweeper fitted. Steeper banks are outside the envelope. With the sweeping deck fitted the rating falls to 18 percent, about 10 degrees.
Properties where the RTK station cannot be sited
The station needs a mounting position and a correction link over home Wi-Fi or 4G. Without somewhere to put it, the positioning the machine depends on is not available.
Owners who want no cloud account
Mapping, zone editing and scheduling run through the Mammotion app against an account, and the RTK correction link is a network service.

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

  • Monthly: Charging station contact cleaning and dock inspection.
  • Every 3-6 months: Blade inspection; replace rather than sharpen, since grinding removes the coating and weakens a blade that runs unattended. Replacements are sold in multipacks.
  • Every 6-12 months: Seasonal blade replacement and charging station thorough cleaning.
  • Seasonally: Winterization (cover or indoor storage in cold climates); spring restart and app connection check.
  • As needed: Contact Kress support if RTKn signal issues persist.
Mammotion Yuka 2000
  • Weekly: Inspect the blades for grass wrap and damage; clean the camera windows with a soft cloth.
  • Monthly: Check the blade edges and the disc mounting bolts. Blades are stamped consumables sold in sets and are replaced rather than sharpened; grinding an edge removes the coating and weakens a blade running unattended.
  • Every 3 months: Inspect the dock contacts and clear debris from the charging plate.
  • Winter: Store the machine and its pack indoors above freezing, with charge in the battery. Do not run the pack down before storage; a lithium cell left near empty for months can self-discharge past its protection floor and not come back. Top it up during the layup, and re-check the map at the start of the season.
  • As needed: Swap the sweeping deck, allowing a few minutes per change, and reset the working slope limit to 18 percent while it is on.
