The wire installation keeps the purchase price down, offset by the labor of laying a loop around the lawn and every island: going to virtual boundaries means the EPOS Plug-in module plus an EPOS Reference Station listing at $999.99, or the Husqvarna Cloud installation option where it is offered.

Mammotion LUBA AWD 1000

Wire-free boundary freedom trades directly against signal reliability: open lots with clear sky view get Level IV consistency; wooded or heavily shaded yards inherit RTK’s documented canopy weakness.

You get genuine Level IV slope performance at $1,499; the LUBA 2 adds camera-assisted obstacle detection for roughly $600 more, which is the meaningful capability gap between the two generations.

Terrain steeper than Husqvarna's rated gradients
Husqvarna publishes two figures for this machine: 50 percent maximum slope inside the installation and 25 percent at the boundary. Those are gradients, not degrees. Fifty percent is about 26.6 degrees and 25 percent is about 14 degrees. The boundary figure is lower because turning at the edge is where traction is lost, and it governs where the loop can be routed on sloping ground. Ravines and terraced layouts should be excluded from the installation.
Lawns larger than the rated working area
Husqvarna rates the 430X NERA at 3,200 m² plus or minus 20 percent on a wire installation, and dealers publish 4,800 m² with the EPOS Plug-in fitted. Lawns above that need a higher model or a second machine rather than longer running hours.
Complex lawn shapes with many islands, narrow passages, or frequent obstacles
In the standard installation every island has to be enclosed by its own run of boundary wire, so a lawn with many beds and specimen trees is a long install and a long loop to maintain. Narrow passages between obstacles limit where the mower can pass at all. Fitting EPOS moves the boundaries into the app, but the same physical passages still constrain the machine.

Coverage capacity is 1,000 sq m (roughly 0.25 acre) per charge. Larger properties require the LUBA AWD 3000 or LUBA AWD 5000 variants or multiple mowing sessions.

Virtual boundaries require the Mammotion app and a satellite-map session at first use. The RTK base station must be installed at a stable outdoor location with clear sky view. Setup is documented at 1-3 hours.

  • Weekly: Inspect blades for dents and dulling; clear cut grass from the deck and around the blade disc. The Automower mulches, so there is no discharge chute or collector to empty.
  • Every 4-8 weeks: Replace the blades along with their screws. Husqvarna states Automower blades are single-use and must never be sharpened, because sharpening weakens the blade’s safety coating and can lead to blade breakage. A genuine Husqvarna 6-pack sells for about $24.
  • Monthly: Wipe charging dock connectors and mower contact pins; check for corrosion in high-moisture climates.
  • Seasonally (Spring/Fall): Check the solid molded wheels for wear and clear packed grass from the wheel housings; verify the boundary loop is intact.
