Greenworks Optimow 50H

Cellular control takes the home network out of the picture. The GreenGuide app reaches the mower from anywhere over 4G and integrated GPS reports its position, but the machine carries an always-on cellular modem, and the pre-installed SIM is prepaid for two years before connectivity becomes a recurring cost.

Robomow RK4000

Boundary-wire guidance eliminates line-of-sight operator control, but requires significant one-time and seasonal infrastructure maintenance that systematic-mapping systems avoid.

Random coverage patterns reduce planning complexity, but result in less uniform grass height and longer mowing cycles than systematic mapping approaches.

Owners unable to install a perimeter wire
Containment is a buried boundary wire: 600 feet of wire and 400 staples ship in the box. The mower's integrated GPS is used for location tracking rather than for containment, so there is no wire-free boundary option.
Yards steeper than the rated 35 percent slope
Greenworks publishes a maximum slope of 35 percent, about 19 degrees. The slope rating is the safety-relevant limit on a robotic mower, and terraced ground or banks steeper than the rating sit outside what the machine is built to hold.
Lawns already overgrown well past four inches
Cutting height adjusts from 2.4 to 4 inches across nine positions. A robotic mower takes a small amount off often rather than reducing a tall lawn in one pass, so grass well above the top cutting height needs a conventional mow before the Optimow takes over.

Robomow's published maximum mowing slope for the RK4000 is 45 percent, which is 24 degrees. Banks steeper than that are outside the rating.

Perimeter-first with randomized fill does not produce striped patterns or uniform cutting height; systematic mapping mowers better suit aesthetic lawn maintenance.

  • Seasonally: Boundary wire inspection for breaks and repair (kits 10-20 USD).
  • Annually: Battery health check; software updates via the GreenGuide app.
