01 Classification

What each one does on its own.

The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

04 Ownership

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo

The bundled handheld trades power for integration: the robot itself is rated 8700 Pa, while the detachable stick runs a smaller motor sized for spot work. Docking convenience comes at a suction cost.

Station capacity sets the length of an unattended session: 4 L of clean water and a 3.5 L dirty-water tank, with the station refilling the robot between passes. A large home with heavily soiled floors will draw the clean tank down over a long run, and both tanks are filled and emptied by hand.

eufy Omni S2

12-in-1 dock: solves every consumable task (empty, wash, dry, dispense), but spreads failure risk across electronics, pumps, tanks and thermal systems that need repair.

Hot-water washing with hot-air drying: eufy heats the wash water (70 C, listed as 140 F in US material) and dries the roller with 131 F air, which is what keeps a mop from souring between runs. It is also close to the whole of the $1,599 argument, and stations that dry with unheated air address the same problem more slowly for less.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo
High-pile or thick carpet homes
Suction and mop lift underperform on shag. Owner reports show corner dust accumulation on low-loop textures; mop pad can drag on nap.
Homes requiring space-constrained dock placement
The station is a fixed cabinet, 554 x 443 x 527.5 mm (21.8 in wide), with the wash tray inside the base and nothing that extends. It still wants a clear approach in front for the robot to dock and headroom to lift the tanks out. Small apartment laundry closets don't suit it.
Owners who want stick-vacuum power equal to main unit
Detachable handheld trades motor strength for docking convenience; it is sized for spot cleanup rather than deep edge work.
eufy Omni S2
Deep shag beyond the mop's lift
The roller mop lifts 28 mm clear of the floor when carpet is detected, more than double the 13 mm on the S1, so ordinary and thick pile are isolated automatically. Pile deeper than that lift is the case the mechanism does not cover.
Budget-conscious buyers
$1,599 MSRP puts this at the top of the category, and consumables are the other half of the figure: eufy suggests a new roller mop every two months at $26.99, roughly $160 a year before brushes, filters and bags.
Homes with limited space near a power outlet
The 12-in-1 station is large (footprint roughly 24in x 20in) and needs a dedicated mains outlet and clear floor space. It does not need a water line or a drain: the 3.0 L clean and 2.0 L dirty tanks are hand-filled and hand-emptied, which is a trip to the sink every few runs instead.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo
  • Daily: Empty dust bag if triggered by app notification (~$18 per pair of bags).
  • Weekly: Rinse mop pads and clean dock water tank; dry interior to prevent mineral deposits.
  • Every 3-6 months: Replace main filter and check dock seals for cracks; thermal cycling can degrade seals.
  • Annually: Drain dock water system if stored in cold climate; check stick-unit battery health and replace if <12 min runtime.
eufy Omni S2
  • Weekly: Refill the station’s 3.0 L clean water tank and empty the 2.0 L dirty tank; rinse the dirty tank rather than just tipping it.
  • Monthly: Rinse the wash tray under the roller and clear hair from the roller brush and brush guard.
  • Every 2 months: Replace the roller mop ($26.99), which is eufy’s suggested interval and the largest recurring cost on the machine.
  • Every 3-6 months: Replace the filter set and the water tank filter; swap the side brushes when the bristles splay ($21.99 for two pairs).
  • As needed: Replace the dust bag when the station reports it full, and the roller brush and brush guard when the brush is worn ($26.99).
  • Before any long period unused: Empty both tanks and let the wash tray dry, so standing water does not sit in the station.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
