The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

03 Measured against the class

How far apart is a long way?

A number only means something next to the spread it sits in. Each track below is the real range across every classified robot in the class, with the median marked.

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV

A stain it can see gets washed until it clears; a stain it cannot classify gets the ordinary pass, and Dyson’s own footnote concedes results vary by stain type.

Hot-water roller washing in the dock removes the grimiest chore, at the cost of a dock that heats water to 158°F beside the floor it serves.

Narwal T10

Dock washing and water management require hands-on intervention, tanks empty every 2-5 days; this is not passive operation despite the “self-washing” framing.

Mop mode is session-level rather than room-level because the module is physically swapped: a cycle is a mopping cycle or a vacuuming cycle, never both, and where it mops is bounded by the separate mop map and the magnetic strips rather than mixed room by room within one pass.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV
Buyers who need independently tested suction and stain detection
The 30,000 Pa rating and the near-200-substance recognition are Dyson claims. Dyson's own footnote says results may vary by stain type and severity, and no third-party test exists yet.
Homes that are mostly carpet or high-pile rugs
Dyson has not published how the wet roller behaves on carpet, whether it lifts, or a carpet cleaning figure for the R3. The stain loop is described only for hard floors.
Shoppers comparing runtime, size and noise before buying
No robot dimensions, weight, battery capacity, runtime or noise rating appear in any launch material or Dyson page reviewed for this record.
Buyers in the UK or Australia wanting one this year
Vacuum Wars reports the UK and Australian launch following in early 2027, and Digital Reviews Network says Australian pricing has not been announced.
Buyers who need a documented navigation sensor suite
Launch coverage names a camera, green illumination and UV light for stain detection, but Dyson has not described how the R3 maps rooms or which sensors it navigates by.
Narwal T10
Homes with extensive carpet or mixed carpet/hard-floor layouts
Mopping mode cannot distinguish carpet; users must disable mop on carpeted zones, reducing hands-off appeal.
Owners seeking fully autonomous mop maintenance without intervention
Water tanks require manual emptying every 2-5 days depending on cleaning intensity; not truly hands-off.
Owners who want one pass that vacuums and mops
The T10 does both jobs but not in one configuration. The vacuum module with its side brushes is physically detached and a pair of mop pads mounted in its place, so a session is one job or the other and someone has to be there to change it over.
Small apartments or homes with limited dock placement space
Dock footprint is substantial (roughly 16-18 inches deep); requires dedicated floor or cabinet space.
Homes where suction is the deciding spec
The T10 is rated at 1,800 Pa, below contemporaries at 2,500 Pa and above. On deep pile or heavy pet hair that gap is the machine's main limitation.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV
  • As needed: Empty the bagless dock bin; Dyson claims up to 100 days of dry debris storage, per Journal du Geek.
  • As needed: Refill clean water and empty dirty water; Dyson has not published R3 tank capacities.
  • Weekly: Check the full-width microfiber roller and its 40 mm edge-extension mechanism for wrapped hair.
  • Monthly: Wipe the camera and UV illumination windows so stain recognition is not reading through grime.
  • As needed: Replace the microfiber roller when worn; no interval or part price is published yet.
  • As needed: Clear the dock’s cyclone transfer path if debris stops moving from robot to dock.
Narwal T10
  • Daily or every other use: Check water tank levels; refill the clean-water tank if volume is low.
  • Every 2-4 cleaning sessions: Empty the dirty-water tank; inspect the dock for visible debris.
  • When switching jobs: Detach the vacuum module with its side brushes and fit the pair of mop pads, or the reverse. The robot recognizes which module is mounted, and only one runs per session.
  • Weekly: Wipe dock nozzles and water-channel openings with a dry cloth.
  • Every 8-12 weeks: Replace mop pads (~$20 per set); old pads lose water-absorption capacity.
  • Seasonally: Lift both tanks out and rinse them with clean water. Narwal’s guidance is that clean water is sufficient; other cleaning products can foam or leave residue that corrodes the piping system, so nothing but water goes into the tanks or through the dock circuit.
  • As needed: Replace dock seals if leaking occurs; monitor pump noise for early failure signals.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
