Dreame Roboticmower A1

LiDAR SLAM removes both the boundary wire and the sky-view requirement. There is no reference station to buy or site and nothing to lose lock on, but the mower still works from a map it was shown rather than one it infers.

LiDAR sensing is unaffected by darkness or harsh light, which is where camera-based avoidance struggles. It also means there is no image classifier on board: the mower routes around shapes rather than recognizing what they are.

A $1,999 launch price with no reference-station hardware to add buys established Level III coverage. Generalized adaptation to ground it has never been shown would require a different class of system.

Segway Navimow i2 LiDAR Pro

LiDAR navigation keeps it on course under trees without an antenna, but there is no edge deck and about 20 cm of border stays uncut.

Quiet in use, below 55 dB in Notebookcheck’s measurement, yet about 13 W on standby lifts its monthly energy use.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Owners wanting nothing to do through the season
Blades are consumables, the LiDAR window needs wiping clear of dust film, and the dock contacts need keeping clean. Those remain hands-on tasks.
Ground steeper than the rating
Dreame rates the A1 to a 45 percent gradient, which is about 24 degrees. Banks steeper than that are outside the machine's envelope, not merely harder work for it.
Lawns above 2,000 m2
The published area rating is 2,000 m2, about 0.49 acre, at 1,000 m2 per 24 hours. Larger properties fall outside it.
Gardens that change shape often
The A1 mows an area it has been shown. Moved beds, new fencing or a reworked boundary mean taking it round the new layout, which Dreame puts at about 15 minutes.
Yards with irregular boundaries or extensive landscaping
Complex perimeter mapping requires extended calibration. Hardscape, planting beds, and curved edges increase manual boundary-learning effort.

Notebookcheck found an unmowed border of around 20 cm where there is no ground-level transition, and no edge-cutting deck.
Owners focused on energy use
Notebookcheck measured about 13 W on standby and nearly 12 kWh a month for a 500 m² lawn mowed three times a week.
Lawns larger than 2,000 m²
Segway rates the i220 LiDAR Pro for 2,000 m² and the i210 for 1,000 m².
Lawns scattered with small balls
Notebookcheck saw a neon-yellow tennis ball usually run over or touched, though larger objects were avoided.

  • After every use: Check the dock contacts and clear grass debris from the underside.
  • Weekly: Wipe the LiDAR window with a dry microfiber cloth to clear dust film.
  • Monthly: Inspect the blades for wear and tangles; clean the dock weatherstrip.
  • As the blades wear: Replace the cutting blades. They are stamped consumables sold in multi-packs and are replaced rather than sharpened; grinding an edge removes the coating and weakens a blade running unattended.
  • When the garden changes: Take the mower round the new boundary. Dreame puts a full mapping pass at about 15 minutes.
  • Annually: Inspect the wheels and drive for wear and confirm the rain sensor responds before the season starts.
  • Winter: Store the machine indoors above freezing with charge in the pack rather than run flat, and top it up during the layup.
Segway Navimow i2 LiDAR Pro
  • Weekly: Trim the roughly 20 cm border the mower leaves along raised lawn edges, per Notebookcheck.
  • As needed: Clear tennis balls and small toys before mowing.
  • As needed: Replace the blades on the six-blade disc; six spares come in the box.
  • As needed: Edit mowing areas and restricted zones in the Navimow app map editor.
  • Annually: Renew 4G data at 29.99 euros a year after the first free year if remote control is wanted.
