What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Beatbot AquaSense 2 Pro

You gain unattended autonomous cleaning across five functions, but scheduling and remote control depend on smartphone WiFi connectivity; app stability concerns appear in owner forums.

The quad brush system covers floor, wall and waterline in the same run, and those brushes are consumables that need rinsing after runs and replacing as the bristles wear.

Obstacle detection protects pool furniture, not people or animals: the pool must be clear before an unsupervised run.

Maytronics Dolphin M700

One extra-large cartridge takes fine and ultra-fine debris together, but changing which media is fitted is a physical swap: the standard and ultra-fine kits are exchanged by hand at the machine, not selected in the app.

The extra-large cartridge stretches the interval between emptyings, but emptying means lifting the whole robot out: 11.5 kg (25.4 lbs) out of the water, top open, rinsed with a hose.

Who each one is wrong for

Pools larger than the rated 3,875 sq ft of surface
Coverage is rated at 3,875 sq ft on a single charge. Larger pools need more than one cycle, which erodes the single-session autonomy the machine is built around.
Pools with frequent chemical fluctuations
Ultrasonic sensor accuracy is degraded by high turbidity. Owners managing dynamic chemistry report navigation inconsistency and sensor false triggers.
Saltwater pools without post-run rinsing discipline
Beatbot's guidance is a freshwater rinse after every saltwater run. Salt left on drive components between runs accelerates corrosion, and the rinse is a step some owners will skip.
Irregular, split-level, or vanishing-edge pool designs
Navigation is built around standard pool geometry. Non-rectangular shapes and multiple water levels can leave sections unvisited and need manual repositioning.
Budget-conscious buyers
Entry-level suction cleaners cost a fraction of this. L3 autonomy, five cleaning modes and cordless operation carry a price premium that a cost-primary buyer may not want to pay.
Maytronics Dolphin M700
Above-ground pools or pools lacking fixed cable anchoring points
M700 design assumes in-ground infrastructure identical to M600. No structural advantage for above-ground or semi-portable installations.
Owners who do not want a cable in the pool
The M700 is mains fed. An 18 m floating cable runs from a power supply set outside the pool. The anti-tangling swivel keeps it from twisting during a cycle, but the cable is in the water on every run and gets coiled after it.
Pools without a protected outlet within reach
The digital power supply plugs into a standard outlet and the manual prohibits extension cords, so the supply has to sit within its own lead of the pool. GFCI protection on that circuit is a code requirement, not an option.
Pools longer than 15 m
Maytronics rates the M700 for pools up to 15 m (about 50 ft) of length. Longer pools fall outside that rating.
Owners who want the robot to decide when to clean
Cycles are chosen by the owner from four fixed lengths: 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 hours. The robot does not read the pool's condition and pick for itself.

What stays your job

  • After each run: Rinse with fresh water. This is required after every saltwater run, not periodically.
  • Weekly: Rinse the quad brushes and inspect for hair tangles or debris wrapping.
  • Weekly: Empty the filter basket of collected sediment.
  • Monthly: Clean the intake filter cartridge or replace it if algae-clogged.
  • As bristles wear: Replace the quad brush set.
  • Seasonally: Check the charging dock contacts, and store the unit dry and out of direct sun with the battery charged rather than run flat.
Maytronics Dolphin M700
  • After every use: Lift the robot out, open the top, empty the filter cartridge and rinse it with a hose.
  • After every use: Remove the cable from the pool and coil it; the anti-tangling swivel handles twist during the cycle.
  • Weekly: Inspect the brushes for algae and matting; clean before the next cycle.
  • As needed: Exchange the standard and ultra-fine filter media as the season’s debris changes.
  • Annually: Check for firmware updates in the MyDolphin Plus app.
  • Seasonally: In freezing climates, remove the robot and cable from the pool before the first freeze and store both dry, with the power supply indoors.
