Aiper Surfer S1

Solar power offers maintenance-free charging and zero-electricity operation, but runtime depends entirely on weather and season, creating predictable gaps on cloudy days.

Unmapped navigation needs no calibration or boundary setup, yet it also means no way to direct the unit at a particular part of the surface.

Waterline-only design eliminates floor-cleaning overhead and cost, but leaves sinking debris untouched and suits only specific pool conditions.

Betta SE

Solar self-charging removes the need to plug the unit in, but the base SE model has no app control and no self-docking, so retrieval and status checks are fully manual.

A narrower, single job (surface skimming only) is done with a simpler design than a floor-and-wall robot, but it also means this unit cannot substitute for one; a pool still needs separate floor and wall cleaning.

  • As the basket fills: Lift the unit out, empty the 5 L filter basket and rinse the 200 micron element. The unit is designed to live in the pool between emptyings rather than be removed after each session.
  • Monthly: Wipe the solar panel with a soft cloth to restore charging output.
  • Every 3-6 months: Inspect the propeller and housing for cracks or deformation.
  • Seasonally: Store the unit dry and indoors over a closed season, with charge in the pack rather than run flat.
  • Annually: Inspect the intake gasket and seals, and replace if visible wear has developed.
Betta SE
  • Weekly: Wipe the solar panel and check the propellers and impeller for dirt, string, or hair; the owner’s manual names both in troubleshooting but publishes no interval.
  • Monthly: Confirm the adjustable bumper rods are secure and set for the pool’s shallow sections.
  • Seasonally: Retrieve and store the unit indoors over the closed season. It charges only from its solar panel (there is no AC charging port), so let it charge in sun before storage rather than storing it flat.
  • As needed: Empty the 200-micron debris basket by its top handle and rinse the mesh; cadence depends on debris load, and the manufacturer publishes no interval.
