The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

04 Ownership

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete

A full omni station takes emptying, mop washing, drying and refilling out of the routine, but it adds a dust bag every 75 to 100 days plus mop pads and brushes to the running cost, and it needs a permanent floor position beside an outlet.

Peak suction modes draw more power than standard, so Dreame’s 180 minute rating from the 6,400 mAh battery is a standard-mode figure and shortens on the highest settings.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo

The bundled handheld trades power for integration: the robot itself is rated 8700 Pa, while the detachable stick runs a smaller motor sized for spot work. Docking convenience comes at a suction cost.

Station capacity sets the length of an unattended session: 4 L of clean water and a 3.5 L dirty-water tank, with the station refilling the robot between passes. A large home with heavily soiled floors will draw the clean tank down over a long run, and both tanks are filled and emptied by hand.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete
Small hard-floor homes
The station's empty, wash, dry and refill functions are most of what the $1,700 buys, and a small hard-floor area exercises little of it. Nothing about the cleaning is unsuited to a small home; the price is.
Homes with 5 GHz-only mesh networks
Requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band for stable docking and map sync. Homes without dual-band support or 2.4 GHz SSIDs face persistent connection issues.
Renters or temporary residents
Dock footprint (auto-empty base + water reserves) and Wi-Fi reconfiguration make relocation friction-heavy. Initial placement and network setup require multi-hour commitment.
Budget-constrained buyers
$1,700 MSRP reflects flagship positioning. Entry-level autonomy vacuums deliver Level III baseline for roughly half the cost; feature difference marginal for homes under 2,000 sqft.
Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo
High-pile or thick carpet homes
Suction and mop lift underperform on shag. Owner reports show corner dust accumulation on low-loop textures; mop pad can drag on nap.
Homes requiring space-constrained dock placement
The station is a fixed cabinet, 554 x 443 x 527.5 mm (21.8 in wide), with the wash tray inside the base and nothing that extends. It still wants a clear approach in front for the robot to dock and headroom to lift the tanks out. Small apartment laundry closets don't suit it.
Owners who want stick-vacuum power equal to main unit
Detachable handheld trades motor strength for docking convenience; it is sized for spot cleanup rather than deep edge work.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete
  • Weekly: Check the mop pads and main brush for hair wrap; wipe the station tray.
  • Every 75 to 100 days: Swap the station dust bag. Dreame sells them in multipacks at single-digit dollars each.
  • Every 3-6 months: Deep-clean the mop module and inspect the station water seals for mineral deposits.
  • Annually: Replace the side brush; service the station connectors and inlet filters.
  • As needed: Refill the station’s clean-water tank with tap water and empty the dirty-water tank.
  • Seasonally: Drain the station before storage.
Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo
  • Daily: Empty dust bag if triggered by app notification (~$18 per pair of bags).
  • Weekly: Rinse mop pads and clean dock water tank; dry interior to prevent mineral deposits.
  • Every 3-6 months: Replace main filter and check dock seals for cracks; thermal cycling can degrade seals.
  • Annually: Drain dock water system if stored in cold climate; check stick-unit battery health and replace if <12 min runtime.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
