What the numbers leave out.
The trade-off
What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
Mopping is a module, not a mode: a water tank with a cloth on its underside clips into the base of the robot for a mopping run and comes back out afterward. There is no lift mechanism and nothing to fail, and equally nothing to stop the cloth crossing a rug if the No-Mop zone has not been set.
No dock automation at all: the base charges and does nothing else. The bin is emptied by hand, the tank is filled by hand and the cloth is rinsed by hand, which is the trade for a base with no wash tray, no bag and no plumbing.
The dock takes over water, pads and debris for up to three months, but it stands far taller than the 3.29 in robot it serves and needs a fixed spot with power.
Suction is sold only as 3x the Plus 505, a relative claim with no pascal figure on iRobot’s own page.
Who each one is wrong for
Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.
- High-pile or thick carpet
- Deep pile is where the suction figure stops translating, and mopping is not an option on carpet at all: eufy's manual says not to use mopping mode on a carpeted floor and to set a No-Mop zone.
- Multi-pet households with heavy shedding
- The mopping cloth loads up quickly on a high-shedding route and has to be rinsed and dried by hand after every run, with no dock automation to absorb any of it.
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi only networks
- Unit supports 2.4 GHz band only; dual-band router required. Many modern office/apartment networks phase out 2.4 GHz.
- Large homes beyond 2,000 square feet per run
- iRobot rates coverage at 2,000 sq ft per charge and has not documented recharge-and-resume behavior for larger floor plans on this model.
- Deep or high-pile carpet
- Pads lift only 10 mm on carpet detection, and no independent carpet test of this model has been published to show how it handles dense pile.
- Buyers who want detergent dosed automatically
- The dock does not add cleaning solution itself; iRobot directs owners to add a compatible solution to the tank by hand.
- Buyers waiting for independent performance testing
- Launch coverage from Vacuum Wars and Reviewed contains no test results, so every suction, runtime and coverage figure today is iRobot's own.
What stays your job
The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.
- After every use: Empty dustbin manually; no auto-empty dock on this model.
- Weekly: Mop pad inspection for matting; manual rinse if heavily soiled.
- Monthly: Mop pad replacement (~$15 per pair) after 100-150 uses.
- Monthly: Side brush bristle check for fiber wrap; replace annually (~$8).
- Every 3-6 months: Filter replacement; HEPA type (~$12 per filter).
- As needed: Dustbin sensor window cleaning if false-full errors appear.
- Every 3-6 months: Empty the dock’s debris storage and dirty-water tank, and refill clean water, per iRobot’s up-to-three-month rating.
- As needed: Add a compatible cleaning solution to the tank by hand; the dock does not dose it.
- Weekly: Check the rubber and bristle main brush and side brush for hair.
- Monthly: Wipe the LiDAR window, cliff sensors and charging contacts.
- As needed: Replace DualClean pads, filters and brushes from iRobot’s Plus 515 accessory series as they wear.
