What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Aiper Scuba S1 Pro

The quad-motor drive that climbs walls and holds a line at the waterline draws more current than a single-motor floor cleaner, which is what the 180 minute runtime is sized against.

Live path planning means no setup, no calibration and nothing to invalidate when the pool changes, but it also means no coverage record: the unit cannot tell you what it missed.

Maytronics Dolphin Liberty 300

Cordless convenience comes with battery discipline. The pack goes into winter storage charged and gets topped up during the off-season, and between cycles the unit is lifted out and charged by hand rather than returning to a dock.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Above-ground pool owners
Aiper positions the S1 Pro for in-ground pools. Wall climbing and the waterline pass assume the near-vertical sidewall of an in-ground pool; floor-only cordless models suit above-ground designs better.
Heavy seasonal debris zones
A heavy leaf and debris load fills the 5 L basket quickly and restricts the intake, cutting a cycle short. Skimming or netting before a run is still needed in high-fall areas.
Budget-first buyers
Single-motor cordless cleaners cost considerably less. The trade-off is random-walk coverage and no waterline work, which is acceptable for simple pool layouts.
Minimal-maintenance preference
The 5 L filter basket is rinsed after most cycles and the 3 micron MicroMesh element is replaced when it stops clearing, and the unit is lifted in and out of the pool by hand each time. Set-and-forget buyers should reassess.

Pools with a heavy leaf load
Coverage per charge is bounded by the battery, and published cycle length is itself in dispute (Maytronics lists 2.5 hours, Robotic Reviews reports 1.5). A heavy debris load also fills the basket sooner, and the basket cannot be emptied without lifting the unit out of the water.
Pools where lifting the unit out at the edge is awkward
The Liberty 300 has to come out of the water to charge, and the sound-activated retrieval only brings it to the wall. Deck height, coping and reach decide how much of a chore that is.
Owners requiring hands-off scheduling year-round
This SKU has no Wi-Fi, app or schedule, and no dock to return to. Every cycle is started at the unit and ended by lifting it out; charge maintenance and off-season storage stay with the owner.

  • After most cycles: Lift out, drain, and rinse the 5 L filter basket with fresh water. Check the intake for debris.
  • Weekly: Rinse the unit with fresh water after salt-water or high-chlorine exposure and let it dry before storage.
  • Monthly: Inspect the 3 micron MicroMesh element and replace it when it no longer clears; check the brushes and tracks for wear.
  • Every 3-6 months: Inspect the drive seals and bearings for corrosion, particularly in salt-water pools.
  • Annually: Confirm the battery still holds a full cycle and inspect the charging contacts. Store the pack charged rather than fully discharged over the off-season.
Maytronics Dolphin Liberty 300
  • After every cycle: Lift the filter panels out of the top-access basket and rinse them with fresh water; check the brushes for wrapped debris.
  • Monthly: Wipe the magnetic charging contacts on the unit and on the charger so they seat cleanly.
  • Every 3-6 months: Check the drive tracks and brushes for wear. The drive and pump motors are sealed units; noise or vibration is a service-center matter, not an owner procedure.
  • Seasonally: Store the unit charged and indoors, and top the battery up during the off-season. Storing a lithium pack discharged damages it.
  • Annually: Inspect the filter panels for tears and the charger lead for damage.
