Robot Mower Keeps Getting Stuck on the Lawn? Fixes
What is going wrong
- Trap spotsHollows, exposed roots and soft ground catch the same machine in the same places every cycle.
- Tight passagesA gap the machine only just fits is where it wedges, because it can enter and cannot turn.
Why this happens
Robot mowers are light and run on small wheels, so they depend on firm, level ground and short grass for traction. Tall or wet grass loads the drive motors and lets the tires slip. Ruts, hollows, exposed roots, and soft borders can trap a wheel or beach the underside so the drive wheels spin without moving the machine. Tight corners and narrow passages leave the mower no room to turn or back out. Low or worn tires make all of this worse by reducing the grip and ground clearance the machine relies on.
Fix it in order
Work through these from the top, starting with the conditions that strand most machines.

Cut the grass shorter.
Tall grass is the most common cause. Lower the cutting height and mow more often so no single pass has to push through heavy growth.

Mow only when the lawn is dry.
Wet grass and soft ground rob traction and clog the wheels. Adjust the schedule to run after the lawn has dried.

Trap spot
Find and fix the trap spots.
Note where it strands itself repeatedly. Fill ruts and hollows, level soft borders, and cover or remove exposed roots so the wheels stay in contact with the ground.

Furniture
Clear obstacles and open tight areas.
Remove toys, hoses, fallen branches, and fruit. Widen narrow passages where you can, since a corridor near the machine’s minimum width will snag it often.

Clean the wheels and check the tires.
Pack mud out of the treads. Worn tires with a smooth surface lose grip. Replace them when the tread is gone, following the part in your manual.

The boundary
Adjust the boundary or map away from edges.
Keep the working area back from ditches, drop-offs, and soft margins so the mower does not drive into ground it cannot climb out of.
If it still strands, look at layout and settings
- Repeated same-spot stalls. A single recurring location almost always means a physical trap. Fix the ground rather than the machine.
- Narrow passages. Corridors between beds or buildings near the model’s minimum width cause frequent snags. Widen them or set them as a separate zone if the model supports it.
- Slopes near the edge. A wheel that slips on an incline can walk the machine into a border and beach it. Ease the schedule off steep sections when the grass is damp.
- Schedule and grass load. Longer gaps between runs mean taller grass and more stalls. More frequent short cuts keep the load light.
When it is the robot, not your lawn
Some signs point past the lawn to the hardware or firmware:
- One drive wheel spins while the other does not on level, dry, short grass.
- The machine reports being stuck while sitting on open, flat ground with nothing around it.
- Stalling started right after a firmware update rather than after weather or growth.
Firmware updates and manufacturer-side changes get logged on the robot’s record and in the Tracker, so you can check whether a recent change lines up with the behavior.
