Maytronics Dolphin Explorer E70

Cable management remains entirely manual. The E70 stores no cord automatically; 60-foot rope coiled on the deck is a weekly visual reminder, and wind or deck traffic can tangle it.

Waterline coverage costs a third motor. The E70 drives its waterline brush independently of the two drive motors, which is part of what separates it from floor-only cleaners on price and on weight in and out of the water.

Wybot S3

Cordless, self-docking, and self-emptying comes at flagship price: $2,999 regular, currently discounted to $2,499 on pre-order, places it above mid-range robotic cleaners; the upgrade premium is substantial if dock automation is not the point.

Waterline reach is mapped, not guaranteed: 3D mapping places cleaner at waterline, but scaling and mineral buildup may require supplemental manual brushing on heavy-stain pools.

Above-ground pools
Maytronics specifies the E70 for in-ground pools, and its three-motor drive and swivel cable are set up for in-ground surfaces and depth. Above-ground installations sit outside what the manufacturer specifies for this model.
Owners avoiding WiFi or app-based control
The power supply starts a cleaning cycle at the press of a button, but choosing among the 1.5, 2 and 2.5 hour cycles and scheduling them runs through the MyDolphin Plus app. Full hands-off operation assumes connectivity.
Pools longer than 50 feet
Maytronics specifies the E70 for in-ground pools up to 50 feet, which the 60 ft cable is sized around. Longer pools sit outside the stated envelope.
Decks with no GFCI-protected outlet in reach
The E70 is mains-fed: the power supply sits on the deck and runs the robot over the cable. It needs a GFCI-protected outlet, which is code-required for pool equipment, and an extension cord is not a way to close the distance to a distant one. The fix is a properly located outlet.
Wybot S3
Above-ground pools under 5,000 gallons
Flagship footprint and self-emptying dock designed for in-ground depth/slope. Minimal evidence for shallow above-ground use; manufacturer guidance unclear.
Pools with complex obstacles or tight corners
3D mapping excels on open floor/wall geometry. Narrow steps, shallow ledges, or tight spa-adjacent areas may slow coverage. Dock placement must clear furniture/edges.
Owners unwilling to manage dock placement and seasonal storage
Self-emptying dock requires dedicated outlet, winter storage, or year-round protection in cold climates. Cable-free robot still needs dock positioning for effectiveness.

  • After every cleaning cycle: Lift the robot out and rinse the multi-layer filter basket through the top-access opening. Maytronics’ instruction is to rinse after each cycle; a loaded basket costs suction. The panels are washable and reusable, so there is nothing to buy on a schedule.
  • After every cycle: Look over the cable for cuts or abrasion and coil it on the caddy so it is not a trip hazard on the deck.
  • Monthly: Check the brushes and the motor housings for hair, leaves and grit, and clear anything wrapped around the drive.
  • Seasonally: Store the robot, cable and power supply indoors out of freeze and direct sun.
  • Every use: Remove the cleaner from the pool before anyone swims.
Wybot S3
  • After every use: Empty debris basket if full; check dock inlet for clogs.
  • Weekly: Rinse pre-filter (dock assists); visual brush inspection for wear.
  • Monthly: Hand-rinse main filter cartridge if dock suction shows weakness; wipe the dock’s solar panel clear of leaves and waterline film so charging is not throttled.
  • Seasonally: Full filter cartridge replacement (~$40-60); dock winterization cover or storage.
  • Annually: Brush wear assessment (~$30-50 replacement if needed).
