The trade-off
What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
EPOS satellite navigation is wire-free, but it is not self-contained: correction data arrives over cellular or Wi-Fi, or from a separately purchased EPOS RS1 reference station, so the boundary depends on a connection that buried wire never needed.
AI Vision removes the wire installation entirely, but the model reached market in 2026, so there is little public record of how vision-assisted boundary holding behaves across several seasons of growth and changing light.
Level IV autonomy within each mode, but transitions between modes are entirely manual: the multi-function promise and multi-function execution are owned by different parties.
GPS precision eliminates wire installation on large lots, yet that same GPS dependency becomes liability when tree canopy or signal interference compresses effective coverage below property footprint.
Who each one is wrong for
Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.
- Steep terrain, particularly at the boundary
- Husqvarna publishes 30 percent (about 17 degrees) inside the installation and 20 percent (about 11 degrees) at the boundary. The boundary figure is the lower of the two and governs where the working area can be drawn, so a bank steeper than 20 percent has to sit inside the area rather than along its edge. Wet turf costs traction below either figure.
- Properties with no cellular coverage and no Wi-Fi reach at the lawn
- Satellite navigation on this model draws its correction data over cellular or Wi-Fi. Where neither reaches the lawn, positioning depends on buying the optional EPOS RS1 reference station and siting it on the property.
- Properties with complex boundary geometry or frequent relocations
- Boundaries are drawn in the Automower Connect app and the mower works from the first run, so nothing is lost to a training period, but a move means re-mapping the property and re-siting the charging station. Intricate perimeters take longer to draw and may need adjustment after the first passes.

- Module changes are made by hand. Yarbo states the change is tool-free and takes under two minutes, but the machine does not select or swap its own modules.

- RTK-GNSS boundary accuracy depends on clear sky view for both the Core and the Data Center. Dense tree canopy is documented in owner reports as a recurring source of boundary drift.
- Buyers seeking snow clearing in wet heavy conditions
- Yarbo publishes a 12 in intake height and no wet-snow rating. Owner reports describe motor strain and incomplete clearing in heavy wet snow, so properties with frequent wet snowfall may encounter more edge-case failures.
- Tight lots with no safe discharge target
- The S1 is a two-stage blower with an adjustable throw of 6 to 40 feet. Properties where every discharge direction points at a walkway, a vehicle, a window, or a neighboring lot leave little room to aim it.
What stays your job
The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.
- Weekly: Dock charging-contact inspection; leaf debris removal from blade housing.
- Every 4 to 8 weeks through the growing season: Replace the six pivoting razor blades and their screws. Blades are replaced as a set and never sharpened: grinding weakens the protective coating and leaves an unbalanced part spinning unattended.
- Seasonally: Redraw boundaries in the app after yard changes; check charging-station siting and clearance after winter.
- Annually: Charging-station deep clean; firmware update check via Husqvarna app.
- After every use: Clear packed snow and debris from the auger housing and chute, or from the mower deck, with the machine powered down; inspect module drive components.
- Weekly (mowing season): Clean mower deck underside; check blade condition for nicks.
- Monthly: Inspect RTK-GNSS antenna housings for moisture; clean charging contacts on the docking station.
- Every 3-6 months: Sharpen or replace mower blades ($15-$30); inspect the auger and impeller for wear through the snow season.
- Annually: Battery capacity check; full module inspection before seasonal transition; firmware update review.
