What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
EPOS removes the boundary wire but adds a plug-in kit and, where Wi-Fi does not cover the garden, a fixed reference station. One dependency substitutes for another rather than disappearing.
Sub-centimeter boundary accuracy pairs with bump-sensor-only obstacle detection. Precision positioning does not buy onboard sensing.
Wire-free operation is an add-on rather than a standard fitting. The EPOS Plug-in kit is a separate purchase, so the wire-free configuration and the base machine are two different prices under one model name.
EPOS satellite navigation is wire-free, but it is not self-contained: correction data arrives over cellular or Wi-Fi, or from a separately purchased EPOS RS1 reference station, so the boundary depends on a connection that buried wire never needed.
AI Vision removes the wire installation entirely, but the model reached market in 2026, so there is little public record of how vision-assisted boundary holding behaves across several seasons of growth and changing light.

- GNSS signal loss under 60%+ tree cover causes repeated dock returns and session interruption. Wire-guided models provide more consistent operation in forested environments.
- Buyers requiring obstacle detection for high-risk yards
- No camera or LiDAR detection; bump sensors only. Properties with children, loose pets, or garden equipment need supervision beyond EPOS-only safety.
- Budget-conscious buyers comparing cutting performance alone
- The NERA costs substantially more than wire-guided alternatives with equivalent blade systems, and the wire-free configuration adds the EPOS Plug-in kit on top of the base price. For a purely price-driven decision the wire-free feature carries no value.
- Owners expecting plug-and-play setup without technical judgment
- EPOS setup involves a sky survey and boundary mapping, plus a reference station where Wi-Fi does not reach the whole garden. That is more judgment than staking wire, and the learning curve is real.
- Properties without usable Wi-Fi coverage across the garden
- App scheduling and remote monitoring need Wi-Fi, and the EPOS plug-in takes its correction signal over Wi-Fi where no reference station is installed. Patchy coverage across the garden means adding a reference station. Offline operation is possible but drops the remote features.

- Husqvarna publishes 30 percent (about 17 degrees) inside the installation and 20 percent (about 11 degrees) at the boundary. What stays your job

- After every use: Inspect cutting area for debris; verify successful dock engagement.
- Weekly: Clean dock contacts and mower docking guides with a dry cloth.
- Every 6-8 weeks: Replace the three pivoting razor blades as a set. Genuine Husqvarna long-life blades run about $5 to $8 for a set of three.
- Every 3 months: Check EPOS positioning through the app and re-survey the installation if coverage has drifted.
- Annually: Inspect wheel brushes and drive gears for wear.
- Seasonally: Before winter storage, clean the mower, charge the battery fully, and store it indoors in a dry place above freezing. Do not store the pack discharged.
- As needed: Clean the charging station and, where a reference station is installed, verify its sky view remains unobstructed.
- Weekly: Dock charging-contact inspection; leaf debris removal from blade housing.
- Every 4 to 8 weeks through the growing season: Replace the six pivoting razor blades and their screws. Blades are replaced as a set and never sharpened: grinding weakens the protective coating and leaves an unbalanced part spinning unattended.
- Seasonally: Redraw boundaries in the app after yard changes; check charging-station siting and clearance after winter.
