Wire perimeter scales with yard size. A 5,000 sqft yard requires 300+ linear feet of buried wire; installation and annual inspection costs rise proportionally. Expansion requires re-installation.

McCulloch ROB R1000

Coverage is reliable but unplanned: the mower cuts a randomized pattern inside the wire, which evens out over repeated sessions but cannot be sent to a missed patch or made to stripe. Property layout changes require manual wire repositioning.

Wireless or GPS-only boundary requirement
Buried boundary wire is the sole positioning method; no GPS alternative available. Households unable to install perimeter wire should skip the entire Automower 305 line.
Yards steeper than the 40% working-area rating
Husqvarna caps the 305 at 40% (22 degrees) inside the working area and 15% where the boundary wire runs, so ground that is within rating in the middle of the lawn can still be out of rating at its edge. Owner reports document traction loss and uphill stalling near the limit, especially on wet grass.
Lawns beyond 600 sqm (about 6,450 sqft)
Husqvarna's rating stops at 600 sqm. Larger lawns need a higher-capacity model: the 115H covers roughly two to three times the area of the 305. Splitting a bigger lawn across zones or additional charging stations adds cost without adding rated capacity.

Wireless or RTK-dependent property setups
This model is fully wire-dependent; owners wanting wireless boundaries or RTK satellite navigation cannot use it.

McCulloch rates the ROB 1000 for a working area of 1,000 m² plus or minus 20 percent, which is about 0.25 acre. Past that the mower cannot hold the whole lawn on a maintenance cadence, however many charge cycles it runs in a day.
Steep or hilly terrain above 25% slope
Slopes steeper than the rated 25 percent gradient. Traction loss on wet or uneven ground begins below that ceiling.
Owners requiring fully autonomous operation with zero intervention
The ROB 1000 is not a set-and-forget system. Perimeter wire damage, blade wear, and seasonal reconfiguration all demand owner attention.
