Ecovacs Goat A3000 LiDAR PRO

Dual LiDAR eliminates wire installation, at $2,499 MSRP. Entry cost is justified only if perimeter-wire avoidance or complex boundary mapping has real value to the owner; wire-guided mowers covering comparable area cost substantially less.

Cutting height is motorized rather than mechanical. Height moves across 1.18 to 3.54 inches in 0.39 inch steps with a swipe in the app, which puts a routine seasonal adjustment behind the app and the account rather than behind a dial on the deck.

Husqvarna Automower 320 NERA

EPOS removes the boundary wire but adds a plug-in kit and, where Wi-Fi does not cover the garden, a fixed reference station. One dependency substitutes for another rather than disappearing.

Sub-centimeter boundary accuracy pairs with bump-sensor-only obstacle detection. Precision positioning does not buy onboard sensing.

Wire-free operation is an add-on rather than a standard fitting. The EPOS Plug-in kit is a separate purchase, so the wire-free configuration and the base machine are two different prices under one model name.

Ecovacs supports lawn area to about 3/4 acre and rates slope climbing at 50 percent, or 27 degrees, on its 32V platform. Beyond either figure the machine is outside its stated envelope. Full-lot coverage in a single session is not the expectation at any size: at 250 to 400 square meters per hour and about 160 minutes of mowing per charge, one charge covers roughly 670 to 1,070 square meters.
Reclaiming overgrown or long-neglected grass
Cutting height tops out at 3.54 inches and the machine is built for frequent light passes rather than one deep cut, so grass well above that height needs a conventional mow first. Height itself is adjustable from the app in 0.39 inch steps, so seasonal changes are a setting rather than a limitation.
Owners requiring real-world testing claims

Buyers uncomfortable with app-based operation and data sharing
Full autonomy requires smartphone app, cloud boundary mapping, and geolocation. Opt-out to manual app-free mode significantly reduces autonomous capabilities.
Buyers set on satellite (RTK) positioning
Navigation here is LiDAR, which emits its own light and is therefore unaffected by shade or overhead canopy; that is the case Ecovacs positions it for, and the case where GNSS/RTK mowers lose sky view. Owners committed to an RTK workflow, or to reference hardware they already have installed, will not find it on this platform.

EPOS setup involves a sky survey and boundary mapping, plus a reference station where Wi-Fi does not reach the whole garden. That is more judgment than staking wire, and the learning curve is real.
Properties without usable Wi-Fi coverage across the garden
App scheduling and remote monitoring need Wi-Fi, and the EPOS plug-in takes its correction signal over Wi-Fi where no reference station is installed. Patchy coverage across the garden means adding a reference station. Offline operation is possible but drops the remote features.
