At $549 the R1 keeps the R2’s navigation and the same 21,000 Pa suction on the same 352 mm chassis. What the lower price removes is wet cleaning, not sensing: the R2 costs more for mop hardware and a washing dock, and both robots map the same way.
The i3+ EVO navigates without a camera, on a gyroscope and a floor-tracking optical sensor, which is what separates this tier from the i7 and s9 above it. The same choice cuts both ways: nothing on board can photograph a room, and the robot maps by driving the floor rather than by seeing it, so the map has to be rebuilt when the layout changes.
Mid-tier positioning means it sits between the budget i4 (no dock) and flagship s9+ (smaller body, more powerful brush); buyers must choose between saving $250 or gaining the s9+’s corner-reach design.
