Aiper Seagull Plus
Cordless convenience and price compete at half the autonomy and reach of the wall-climbing Oasis Z5i. You trade waterline coverage and scheduling for freedom from cable management.
Betta SE
Solar self-charging removes the need to plug the unit in, but the base SE model has no app control and no self-docking, so retrieval and status checks are fully manual.
A narrower, single job (surface skimming only) is done with a simpler design than a floor-and-wall robot, but it also means this unit cannot substitute for one; a pool still needs separate floor and wall cleaning.
Who each one is wrong for

Aiper Seagull Plus
- Pools with sloped or hopper floors
- The Plus requires a completely flat floor and cannot climb or hold a slope. Gunite and concrete pools that slope to a deep end leave the sloped section uncleaned. This is the fact that determines whether the machine works in a given pool, ahead of size or debris type.
- Owners seeking hands-off automation
- No scheduling app or timer; manual trigger required before each use. 110-minute runtime limits unattended operation. The sealed battery recharges between runs rather than being swapped, so multi-run days are planned around charge time.
- Pools with heavy leaf load or algae blooms
- Suction-only design without brush means dead leaves and thick algae clog the filter quickly. Requires pre-cleaning or daily attention during fall and spring seasons.
Betta SE
- Owners expecting floor, wall or waterline cleaning
- This is a surface skimmer only; it does not reach the pool floor, walls or waterline the way the other robots in this category do.
- Owners who want app-based monitoring or scheduling
- The base SE model has no app control, per the manufacturer's own comparison; that requires the higher-tier SE Plus.
- Buyers who require independently verified reliability data before purchase
- No independent, non-manufacturer test of the Betta SE was located during this research.

Aiper Seagull Plus
- Every run: The unit must be fully submerged before it is switched on. Running it in shallow water or out of the water damages the pump and the seals.
- After every use: Rinse the flat mesh filter and the debris area in the body with fresh water, and let the unit dry out of direct sun. Rinse the machine itself after use in a saltwater pool.
- Every charge: Dry the charging port before connecting the adapter. Charge the unit out of the water on a hard surface clear of combustibles, using the supplied adapter and never an extension cord, into a GFCI-protected receptacle as code requires near a pool. Do not leave it charging unattended overnight. Charging is the failure surface behind both CPSC recalls on Aiper’s cordless line, neither of which covers the Seagull Plus: the Elite Pro GS100 in August 2023 (recall 23-784, about 22,000 units, 17 reports of the battery overheating when the cord was connected without the adapter or directly to the charging port) and the Seagull Pro in March 2025 (recall 25-187, about 32,660 units, 19 reports of units melting, smoking or catching fire on charge, traced to the high-current adapter). The 2023 recall was remedied with a free Seagull Pro, the model recalled in 2025.
- Weekly during the season: Check the intake and impeller area for hair, leaf stems and grit that survived rinsing.
- Seasonally: Store the unit indoors, out of freezing conditions, with the battery charged rather than left flat.
- As needed: Replace the mesh filter if the media tears or will no longer rinse clean.
Betta SE
- Debris basket: 200-micron fine-mesh basket with a top handle needs periodic emptying by hand; cadence depends on debris load.
- Retrieval: No self-docking; a person manually repositions and retrieves the unit at the pool edge.
- Solar panel: Relies on sunlight for extended operation; the manufacturer states it still runs 30-plus hours per charge including overnight, with faster recharge (5-6 hours) in direct sunlight.
