01 Classification

What each one does on its own.

The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

How far apart is a long way?

A number only means something next to the spread it sits in. Each track below is the real range across every classified robot in the class, with the median marked.

04 Ownership

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Roborock RockNeo Q110H

$1,299 buys wire-free RTK and stereo-camera obstacle avoidance; two-wheel drive is what gives way on sand, pavers and steep grass.

Navigation got better across Gizmodo’s week of testing, so the first mows are the roughest ones.

Sunseeker Elite X4

No antenna and no wire make setup quick, and the edges still need a trimmer.

Navigation stayed consistent for T3; drops and complex layouts are where auto-mapping falters.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Roborock RockNeo Q110H
Yards between tall buildings or under heavy tree cover
Gizmodo's antenna, sited between two two-story houses, twice failed to get a signal, and the review advises lots of tree cover calls for another mower.
Lawns broken up by pavers, sand or loose ground
Two-wheel drive dug small ruts mounting uneven pavers, and Gizmodo had to rescue it several times from a sandy pit near the dock.
Slopes steeper than its 45 percent rating
On a slope beyond its rating, Gizmodo saw it skitter and slide downhill and churn dirt from under the grass on the way back up.
Yards where children or pets play during mowing
When Gizmodo stepped into its path it mostly stopped and went around, but it bumped a leg once and drove over a foot another time.
Sunseeker Elite X4
Owners who want edges finished by the mower
T3 reports that edges still need tidying up after the mower's pass.
Gardens with drops, terraces or intricate layouts
T3 found auto-mapping can struggle with drops or more complex layouts.
Owners who change cutting height often
Sunseeker's dealer spec sheet lists manual cutting height adjustment from 20 to 60 mm.
Lawns larger than about 1,200 m²
Sunseeker rates the X4 for lawns up to 1,200 m².
Owners who want deep app customization
T3 found the app leans towards simplicity rather than deep customization.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

Roborock RockNeo Q110H
  • As needed: Rinse mud and clippings off the IPX6 body and wheels, which CNET says Roborock permits.
  • As needed: Replace the blades; an extra set comes in the box and Roborock sells Endurance Blades.
  • As needed: Re-check zone boundaries after early mows, since Gizmodo saw map drift and skipped sections.
  • As needed: Lift it out of sand or off uneven pavers when it gets stuck, per Gizmodo.
  • As needed: Keep the RTK antenna in open sky, or switch to network RTK where it is available.
Sunseeker Elite X4
  • Weekly: Trim lawn edges the mower leaves.
  • As needed: Set cutting height by hand between 20 and 60 mm.
  • Monthly: Clean grass from the deck and wheels; the X4 is rated IPX6.
  • As needed: Replace the six blades on the floating disc when dull.
  • Seasonally: Clean and store the mower and charging station over winter.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
